Guest guest
I guess that I really lucked out my orthopedic Doc.He seems to care so much for his patient's. When I went for my year check-up on the replaced knees(X-rays).He always says Can I do anything else for you today? " . His last comment was " I am so glad that I helped you get your life back after the surgeries. " I was on crutches for 6 months until he said Please let's do them now you are overdue and you can't live in this much pain. " Debs in FL and Anjillah I hope you find someone to help you.My Doc volunteers some of his time with United Cerebral Palsy.I think he get's his gentle manner from working with the kids. Guest guest
Hi Louise, I don't think my ortho doc means to be like this. I think a lot of his expressions are from frustration. The first fracture occurred like over 2 years out from the initial surgery. He said these fractures are not unusual, but then again, they are not common this far post op either. So things were going along ginger peachy, he repaired the fracture and did a lateral release so that the patella would not be so tight and therefore, reducing the risk of this happening again. While I was just thumping along after that arthroscopy, three weeks out, I sat on the commode again and what do you know, it fractures again only this time, the fracture is a larger piece and bigger. Then 10 days after that while getting back into bed, I felt and heard more pieces crack and crumble. He can now feel the pieces in my patellar region. My first reaction was to remove the remainder of the patella at which time, the shouting match ensued. After thinking about this, of course, it was a ridiculous thing to say. You break your arm, they don't cut it off. If it is not a displaced fracture, you set it, immobilize, give pain killers for 6 weeks and see what the body can do. That is the stage I am in right now. I have 3 weeks under my belt and another 3 weeks to go, praying for a miracle and some major " Super Glue " . I was so upset with the doc that he yelled at me while I was sick, that I am still licking my wounds, but he is the guy who replaced these things and I am very leary to go to another ortho to have him " futz " (a new medical term) around in there. So, I have another 3 weeks to get myself mentally prepared for another open procedure (the medical incarceration, the pain, the rehab) and hopefully then, I will be able to just do my maintenance that I have been promised. This disease just moves in and takes over your life with very little warning or preparation. You see the rest of the world just thumping along and here we are playing the " RA roll of the dice game " ! Everything will be OK once I get used to it, which I think I have accepted. Yes it sucks, but things could be a lot worse. I don't want to think of the " worse " , but I am sure it is out there! Any big plans for the holiday? My daughters are having friends over for a cookout and swim party so today I will be directing the preparations. In the evening, you can see the fireworks from 3 different cities right from our front yard. I don't really mind, at least I will know where all the kids are and for that I am thankful. Hope you have a pain free, safe and happy holiday and thanks for your concern. Gentle, tender, firecracker angel hugs, Debs in FL
