Guest guest
Hi Tess, He is on vacation and doesn't return for over two weeks. Maybe I am just being a baby. But I am walking around in pain all the time. I just don't know what to do. I guess I should see if the new medicine works or at least helps. I am suppose to call her and let her know in a week or two. I think my best bet would be to call the surgeon if this medicine doesn't help. Thanks for your help. Hope you are feeling well. Guest guest
Lynn, does this doctor expect payment for what she did for you in your appointment with her. What do doctors think we go to them for. I guess that bothers me because I have gone to doctors that don't tell me anything, but I always get the bill. Hope you can find something out soon, you don't need added pain. in WA
Guest guest
Lynn, Please, please, please call Dr. to. Someone has to help you. You shouldn't be expected to live in this kind of pain day after day, week after week, month after month. to has the primary responsibility to help you. Please call him. Don't hold back. You have to tell him that you have no semblance of a normal life. Explain exactly how much pain you are experiencing and how much difficulty you are having eating. Tell him that you need his help. Do not wait until your primary comes home. I'm not sure what he would do anyway except for advise you to go see to. Really, Lynn. This is your right as a patient. Guest guest
Lynn, A total small bowel obstruction is very definitive in symptoms. You try to eat and nothing comes out your bottom and everything you put down your throat comes right back up. The pain is indescribable. The only place that you want to be is in the hospital. When you arrive there, an IV will be started and you will be given nothing by mouth. They will then drop an NG tube, to relieve the food contents in your stomach and try to reduce the air that is trapped in your stomach. Once that has been accomplished, the NG tube is normally removed. They also give pain medications to try to make you more comfortable. The Bentyl is being given to you to try to keep the spasms to a minimum so that it by itself does not " kink your colon " so to speak. Or if there is a small kink, maybe a tiny bit of the medicine will help it to relax, something like a hose. A partial obstruction (which is what I think I am battling) is slightly different in that a small amount of food does stay down but causes extreme pain as the tummy tries to pas it through and there is only a pin hole for the food to go down. On the bottom end, the shape of your stool changes to that of a pencil as again, the opening to process the food, is constricted. This is probably more information that what you needed to know, but hey where else is anyone going to tell you? A partial obstruction can and sometimes does resolve by itself with very careful monitoring of your diet and fluids, but should not be let go until it becomes something bigger. I am still trying to find those two doctors name that you may want to check on. Hang in there, my friend, Deb
Guest guest
Congratulations a, glad all went well. I am the mother of four boys. They are such fun to raise. I have always felt girls are a little harder to raise. Hope your daughter-in-law is doing well. Enjoy your time with the baby. I am trying the medicine but I wish there was something better. Sometimes it really hurt and last night I felt terrible when I tried to eat. So we will see how it goes. Guest guest
Hi , Thank You for the advice. Rick has been working so much that he is hard to track down. I am going to call him this week. I spoke to him yesterday but he was working on his house, so we only had a moment. Not enough time to get into all this. Plus I hate to burden my kids with anymore. I think they need some positive information about me. It has been a hard road for them too. I really don't tell them much, I don't tell anyone in my family a whole lot. I am trying the new medicine. It is Bentyl, not sure what it is doing. I am also trying to lower the predisone to 6mg, from 7mg. The Rheumy is so worried about the bones since I can't take fosamax. So we are trying this, so far it is okay. A little more pain but I can deal with this. I will probably end up calling the surgeon myself. I am thinking maybe I should go back to Dr. Long at the U. of P.. I like my GI doctor but I am not sure she is on top of this thing. My primary and Rheumy both seemed concerned that she was not doing more about this. I start school the end of August so I need things settled. Plus this is a terrible way to walk around. Debs gave me a lot to think about, she even mentioned that they do not like to operate on this scar tissue. I will see how the next couple of days goes. I should try to find out the systems of an full obstruction. Hope you and the kids are well. Lynn (MeMom) wrote: > Lynn, > > Please, please, please call Dr. to. Someone has to help you. Guest guest
Hi , We did all the talking over the phone. I don't see her till the very end of August. If things don't improve I will have to see her before that. But I really think it would be in my best interest to just call to myself. She mentioned I do that but than changed her mind. However, I feel that is my best option. I hate going down there, it is so far from me. But I could just hop the train. Thanks for you note. Hope you are feeling good. Guest guest
Thanks Tess, I am wondering if the surgeon will even get on the phone with me. He is very busy. I only saw him twice in the hospital, he just blows in and out. I am even considering going down to the U. of P. to see the GI specialist that I first saw down there. Guest guest
Deb, I am so sorry you have to go through another surgery. I don't know what I would do if I had to go through one more surgery. You know you will be in my thoughts and prayers on the 8th. It will be a good day for a candle day. Don't worry about telling me too much, I would much rather know what I am dealing with. I just don't know what to do. However, if I still feel this way next week I am calling the doctor who did the surgery. I would like to hear what he has to say. Now my neck is really hurting me as is my arms. I don't know whether or not to call the ortho. Simply because I don't know if wc will pay for it or not. My attorney is away so I can't ask him. But I think it would be okay to call him, he really doesn't want to deal with wc so I am between a brick and a hard place. Just wish it would all go away. I have been trying to go for walks. I know one reason my neck is hurting is we are trying to drop the predisone. Anyway you are in my prayers. I appreciate all your help it is always better to know up front what could happen. I didn't know the systems of a bowel obstructions. It is good that now I do, I can watch for it. I hope today will be restful for you, Lynn (MeMom) Auntblabbie2000@... wrote: > Lynn, > > A total small bowel obstruction is very definitive in symptoms. Guest guest
Lynn, The bentyl is a drug commonly used for IBS to relieve spasms. It works by blocking the chemicals that act on the muscles that go into spasms. I hope it helps. http://www.drugs.com/index.cfm?pageID=0 & BN=Bentyl & HTM=D00999A1.htm http://ibscrohns.about.com/cs/bentyl/ Scar tissue can be tricky to operate on because there is no guarantee that it won¹t come back. I hope they can help you without surgery. Hugs, a > Hi , > Thank You for the advice. Rick has been working so much that he is hard > to track down. I > am going to call him this week. Guest guest
Hi Lynn, I was thinking that something was wrong with you because you had been quiet for a few days. I am sorry that you too are having ortho problems. And still WC gives you a hard time, it just doesn't seem right. As far as locating your adhesions. They can only be detected by direct visualization either thru an endoscope or an ERCP or if they are outside the organs, an exploratory laparoscopy which that in itself is more surgery. They do not show up on any MRI, CT, X-ray or Ultrasound. It really is a tricky condition to diagnose and treat. Most doctors, unfortunately, just go by patients symptoms unless you have obstructed which of course is visible on X-ray. Oh, I feel for you, my friend, this new set of problems is not any more pleasant than your original problem. As long as there is no food in the GI tract, the pain is not there or minimal. Once, food starts to go down there, the food makes the bands that are around the organs become tighter (like a rubberband) and hence, PAIN....until things empty out. That is why I am living on egg drop soup almost all the time. If I try anything else, I have to eat a very small portion, very slowly and wait for that to go thru and try to put some more down. So I have found that thin soups are my best source of food. Even milk shakes are too thick for my GI tract. In all the surgeries I have had, not ONE doctor has ever mentioned that one of the possible side effects could be adhesions. Some stories of adhesions can bring tears to your eyes. I am just praying that I can hold out until 8-22-02 when my surgeon gets back. He has been very supportive about the adhesion process. He doesn't understand it, because their medical books say that adhesions don't hurt unless they are obstructing the patient, but he is wise enough to know that books aren't always right. Hang in there, my friend. We will fight this battle together just like a year ago! Gentle, tender, angel hugs to you across the miles, Deb
Guest guest
Hi a, Thank you for the information. Everything gets much worse when I eat. Actually, I didn't feel bad today until I ate. If I still feel this way or still have this much pain next week, I'm calling the surgeon. Not to have surgery but I would like his opinion. Also, I would like to know just where the scar tissue is located. So if I have to go through a couple of test I will. My other problem I want to call the ortho to see about my neck, since it hurts so much. But I don't know if I should call him or not. He really doesn't want to bother with wc. I think I will call him the worst he can do is turn me away. I know wc doesn't want to pay for anything. My hearing is next Thursday. It's funny I thought everything was going to be okay when I got the ssd. Now I feel like it is all crashing down around me. Hope you and are feeling well. How is the new baby????? I have to go buy a new album for our addition. I am hoping when she gets the ultra sound pictures they give me one. I think I had told you, I keep albums of my grandchildren. Even put in the little cards they give me, plus their party invitation, just stuff like that. Plus pictures, it fun. Having adhesions and trying to digest food, geez! The good news is that with my hysterectomy they got all the adhesions and endo. and I've never had pain since. Hopefully they will zap your adhesions and you'll be feeling great soon, Debs. Love and hugs, Carol Re: [ ] GI problems Hi Lynn, I was thinking that something was wrong with you because you had been quiet for a few days. Guest guest
Oh Lynn, What can I say? This wc/ss mess is just that.....a MESS. I didn't know that ss could pick and chose on what things they were going to cover and what not to. Yikes, there is so much to know about " the system " . I am still appealing my first denial and all they keep doing is asking for more information and I probably can figure out where that is all leading up to.........a denial! Reading your symptoms, it sure does sound like adhesions some place in your innards, but I am no doctor. What a lousy deal you have been dealt. That major surgery and now this. I think that you will find that even Dr to is reluctant to do anything about the adhesions unless you really obstruct. I am waiting for my general surgeon to come back from his vacation but I have no guarantee that he will want to attempt another lysis of adhesions for me. They say that the barrier methods for adhesions are going to be approved here in the US but no time frame is given. Right now the clinical trials are only be done on female reproductive adhesions ONLY and the doctors are prohibited from using it anywhere else. Right now the only country where this has been approved and is being used is in Germany. It costs about $6000.00 for everything including air flight, and of course insurance covers NOTHING. However, it does include the Spraygel and a second look surgery to make sure everything was taken care of. It is really a gray area. I make more adhesions that I make money, but yet when they would take out cartilage from my knee in the thought that my body would produce adhesions to cushion the joint, my body made NOTHING. Go figure! Waiting for next week isn't going to accomplish much of anything outside of being uncomfortable for another week with no answers. Hang in there sweetie. I wish that I could say that everything is going to turn out OK, but adhesions therapy is tricky business. Try to take care of yourself and not worry TOOOOOOO much. Gentle, tender, angel hugs, Debs in FL.
Guest guest
Hi Deb, Thank you for all the information. The pain is there but is minimal until I try to eat. Than it really hurts. Now I know why she doesn't want to run test. I do so badly with ERCP'S, every time I get into trouble. Well I don't see any easy answers but I will see how it goes the next couple of days. The endoscopy did not show anything when I had it done in March. But the surgeon had told my primary that it would show the scar tissue because it is much lower. A place the endoscopy can't go. I feel like everything is such a mess. On top of all this I still have the eating problems maybe being made worse by this scar tissue. Plus I have the hearing next week. My attorney is away so I can't speak to him for any reassurance. Yesterday I found out that ss is not going to give me the doctor visits for the last two years. I was told to get all that together and they would give me the money back. It was bad information they only pay for hospital bills. The two grand would have been a help. I am going to call the ortho doctor. It will upset wc that they are going to get another bill, but I really don't care. I don't think there is much he can do but I would value his impute. He is aware of what wc is trying to do, however, he doesn't want to be involved in it. Hope you are able to rest. You are in my prayers always. Guest guest
You¹re welcome Lynn. I think it¹s a good idea to talk to the surgeon. Maybe he can shed some light on what¹s going on and have some answers for you. It can¹t hurt to ask. I know how all of this wc/ss is making you nutty. Somehow it will all work out. It¹s hard going through it, but they can only do this for so long. You¹ve fought and won a long hard battle. This is just a small spat in comparison. It will be resolved. Your attorney fought them once and he will do it again. Try not to worry Lynn. I know that is easier said than done when so many medical bills and the food on your plate depends on it. But worrying won¹t change anything. I¹ve been doing pretty good thanks, but today I went shopping with my girlfriend and I am paying dearly. I¹ve got tons of blueberries to get in the freezer and my feet hurt to bad to do anything. Oh well, hopefully tomorrow I¹ll feel better. The baby is doing great thanks. I too am doing an album for him. It is a lot of fun! Hugs, a > Hi a, > Thank you for the information. Everything gets much worse when I eat. > Actually, I didn't feel bad today until I ate. Guest guest
Hi Carol, Thank you so much for the angel card, it truly brightened my day. Friday was a very difficult day with the pain and all and I was not capable of doing too much at all. Took several hot showers thinking that maybe that would relax things, but to no avail. My adhesions are a combination of 2 c-sections, numerous infertility operations, gallbladder surgery, hysterectomy and appendectomy. The location of my adhesions in the past has been to my liver and adhering my liver to other abdominal organs. When I had my gallbladder removed (6 weeks after Vickie was born via c-section), it was so inflamed that it burned wholes into my stomach and as they removed the gallbladder, (old 10 inch scar method), they spilt the contents into the abdominal cavity. As the bile and infection stuff went thru my system, it caused scarring, pancreatitis and mild hepatitis. When I was pregnant with , after numerous surgeries for endometriosis, at 6 1/2 months gestation, I had appendicitis, thus causing more scarring and because the pregnancy displaced the appendix, I also have a 10 in scar from them trying to locate the little thing. From years of gastritis that would often go untreated because of an inept gastroenterologist, more adhesions formed. I was sent to the University of Chicago and they did some type of an ERCP procedure (no cutting) where they opened up a valve area where sludge from my gall bladder was causing me severe pain and causing weird labs. At first, the relief after the procedure and ensuing pancreatitis was noticeable. However, they now feel that scar tissue has grown in this spot and closed it again and this needs to be reopened again. I have a little bit of strength this am, so I thought I would hop on and answer some of my mail. Did you go for your exam yesterday and receive the Remicade. I am thinking and praying for you always, my friend. I can't do too much right now. The girls are going to have to run the house right now. I see the ortho again on Monday to discuss the CT results and I guess the upcoming surgery. I wonder with my labs a little out of whack, if they can even do the surgery. I got the papers for the planned surgery and the reservation indicates a partial or total patellarectomy. So I guess he is going to remove pieces or the whole patellar. Since I got a's e-mail, I have thought about nothing other than the questions she posed. All I know is that some ortho's don't even treat patellar fractures, because once again, their textbooks tell them that these fractures aren't supposed to cause any pain. Sounds familiar.....like adhesions treatment. Well, I have talked way to much and am in severe pani right now, so I will close. Please take care of YOU and let me know how you are doing. You are special to me, my friend! Love and hugs, Deb
Guest guest
(((((((((Deb)))))))))) Your adhesions sound so painful. I was really fortunate that when they did my hysterectomy they got all the endo and adhesions cleaned up, and I haven' t had any pain since. I've read about people that think the hysterectomy will be a solution, then they still have pain. Did it start in the reproductive area and move to the GI area, or are they two separate problems? I went back to Gainesville yesterday, and they did the labs. I'll know the results of them on Monday. As long as that goes well, I have an appointment next Friday to meet with the rheumy in charge of the study, who wants to make sure he agrees with my rheumy's diagnosis and wants to make sure my swollen/tender joint count is enough for the study. I also have my DEXA bone scan that day. If all goes well, the following Tuesday, the 6th, I will get my first infusion. My family then comes on the 8th of August, for 8 days. Hopefully the Remicade will have me feeling great for their visit. Speaking of labs, I hope yours won't interfere with your surgery. That would be awful. You are in my prayers, always, Deb. I hope you have a reasonably comfortable day. Love and hugs, Carol Re: [ ] GI problems Hi Carol, Thank you so much for the angel card, it truly brightened my day. Guest guest
Hi Deb, How are you doing? I know you are really suffering. I just found out wc didn't pay the bills they were suppose to pay. My attorney will bring it up on Thursday to the judge. They were told to pay the bills. My nephew who is a parallegal, he is going to law school next month, told me the judge will be really pissed off that they didn't do what she said. We will see what happens. I wish things were better for you, you are as always in my prayers. Lynn Auntblabbie2000@... wrote: > Oh Lynn, > > What can I say? This wc/ss mess is just that.....a MESS.
