Cut and pasted from another list serve......I apologize if you are receiving it

several times.

Take Care everyone!!

The US Dept of Ed is accepting comments on certain areas of the IDEA

until July 28. It is interesting to visit the link provided below

and see why they are accepting comments on the specific issues listed

as well as seeing comments that others have already submitted.

In my opinion, comments need to be sent in that address the issue of

parents using advocate(s) in due process hearings in lieu of an

attorney. Many parents can't afford an attorney. The Supreme Court

has already ruled that parents can

represent themselves; however the role of advocates in dp hearings

has not been addressed yet by the Supreme Court in recent times.

Specifically at issue is whether state law should determine whether

or not a parent can use a non-attorney in a dp hearing.

The US Dept of Ed uses your (the public's) comments to formulate how

a proposed

regulation is later worded; comments are very important.

Comments must be submitted to the U. S. Secretary of Education on or

before July 28, 2008.

The regulations and background information can be found at

http://edocket.access.gpo.gov/2008/pdf/E8-10522.pdf.

click on " docket " to see other's submitted comments.
