I have been on MTX for 4 months and have had my first 2 treatments of

Remicaid. I'm also on 2 meds for hypertension (this started at the same time

RA was diagnosed.)

I keep having the most awful flushing/sweating spells....my entire scalp and

face gets soaking wet for no reason at all. It will last about 30-45 minutes

and comes back several times per day. What do you think this is related to?

It's driving me crazy.

Hi Sheree,

I get this too. Having it right now as a matter of fact. I think mine

started when I started taking the mtx. I usually leave a wet spot on any

chair that I sit in from the sweating and have wet hair on the back of my

neck. Right now I am sitting in front of the air cond. and I am still

soaking wet. Hope its not too bothersome for you.

Hi Sheree,

I hate to ask the obvious, but do you think it could be hormonal? When my

hormones are out of whack (I've had a hysterectomy) I get the sweats.

Even if you're not at an age for menopause, you can get perimenopausal

symptoms, which are caused by estrogen dominance.

will know better if it could be med related.

Anyway, I hope it clears up soon.

Hugs,

Carol

Hi Sheree:

I have been on MTX for about six months now and have

not had any sweating spells like you describe, but

have noticed that I sure do sweat a lot more than I

used to with my usual chores. I'm talking sweating

like I have never sweated before! I'll do something

outside or be cleaning in the house and I will just

start sweating up a storm - sweat dropping down my

face, into my hair from my scalp, just running down my

body - very weird. Never really associated it with

the MTX but who knows? I am 48 so am near menopause

age but am still on BC pills so my hormones should be

in check, shouldn't they? Anyway, just thought I'd

put in my 2 cents worth -

Hi Sheree. RX List has sweating listed as a less common reaction of MTX.

http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/mtx_ad.htm

Do you think it can be menopause related? Have you mentioned it to your

doctor?

Hi,

My rheumy said he didn't think it was the MTX or Remacaid. He said it was

probably the Prednisone (15mg) daily. I don't think my primary care MD cares.

Sorry you are having trouble, Sheree.

From what I read at various sites, it is possible that any one of the

three - prednisone, MTX, or Remicade - can cause flushing or sweating.

So can certain antihypertensives. I'm not sure which ones you are on,

but maybe you should run this problem by your pharmacist. It's really

hard to tell when a person is on multiple drugs which medication is

responsible for which side-effect. Sometimes, too, it is an unfortunate

combination of meds that produce the adverse reaction.

I'm sure it's frustrating and annoying. I hope you can get some relief

soon.
