Using plastic bottles for secondary ferment

Not trying to give a hard time, as I'm definitely a big believer in " to

each his/her own " ...

However, I encourage folks to ensure that they use food-safe plastics.

Why? b/c of kombucha's ability to " leach " whatever it is introduced to. That's

the quality that supposedly helps pull toxins out of your body (if you buy that

premise). And I believe it must be true to some extent, b/c of the way kombucha

instantly starts pulling color/flavoring out of other ingredients when you add

them. (Drop a couple of hibiscus flower petals into a bottle, and see how

quickly the liquid turns pink!)

Therefore I believe there is a chance that kombucha may possibly pull

plasticizers out of bottles that are not made from food-safe plastic. (I avoid

the issue entirely by using glass.) I would assume that if a beverage is

packaged in the U.S., that bottle is probably safe to reuse... but you know

what they say about when you " assume " !
