Low Starch Diet

Hi Friends. I was reading about AS after my rheumy saying I have it with

the RA, and a popular AS website says that a low starch diet is beneficial.

They say that AS is a reactive type of arthritis, and the bacteria feed off

starchy foods. I know that the RA isn't considered a reactive arthritis,

but there are people in the group taking antibiotics for RA. So, I'm

wondering if a low starch diet would help symptoms.

As some of you may remember, I've been trying a wheat free/dairy free diet

for about 3 months now. I thought I was doing a little better, but this

past month has been horrible. I'm thinking of throwing in the towel on it.

Matter of fact, I did eat wheat and dairy two days ago for the first time in

awhile. I had quiche, and boy was it good! I'll let you know if I have an

increase in pain from it.

After reading a lot of posts on this AS website about the good results they

are having with the low starch diet, I'm considering changing to that. It

probably seems ridiculous that I keep trying different diets, but I feel

good when I'm at least trying something. I read in a book on chronic

illness that I'm in the " bargaining " phase of acceptance. :)

Has anyone tried a low starch diet? If so, did you have success with it? I

guess it would be similar to the Atkins diet, but not as extreme. Lots of

fruit and veggies, and not as many carbs.

Here's a link to the discussions, in case anyone's interested.
