Guest guest
HI , I would give him Benadryl by mouth. What about an Oatmeal bath? For I use, Aveeno Soothing Bath Treatment. It is 100% natural colloidal oatmeal. I hope he feels better soon. Keep us posted. And I am saying a prayer for him. Take care, Tasha Mommy of twin boys- and 35 months Fort Worth, Texas is currently in a brace-8 degrees out of brace!! backyard0wl wrote: Todd's 3rd cast was removed today!!! He is so very happy and wiggly! But also very, very itchy. We've not had this with the first 2 casts. Any suggestions? I'm worried he will scratch himself raw--it's the lower back, where the cast was really tight. I have cleaned him off as well as possible. I tried calendula cream. It was the first time we'd ever used it, so I was kind of worried it might have made the itching worse, so I gave him another bath a few hours later! I know we're not supposed to put lotion on it to keep from making the skin too soft, but I think if he scratches it all off, we're worse than soft, right? So I put some gentle water-based unscented face lotion on. Still itchy, so later I put a little Benadryl cream on it, too. Anything else I haven't thought of?? Anyone else ever have this much itchiness??? Thanks! , Mommy to Todd PS He gets cast #4 on Friday in Birmingham. We hope to get good news about the correction from this cast since the previous one did nothing. Please say a prayer for him if you're so inclined! Thanks! __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Hi , We usually have the same problem. Make sure when you give him a bath to use lukewarm water. Warm or hot water will make him itch worse. Also make sure that the lotion you use is fragrance free and for sensitive skin. We used to use the Aveeno lotion for dry skin (until we learned she has an oat and wheat allergy!) It worked well. You maybe could give him some Benadryl if he doesn't get any better! I know the docs do not encourage lotion, but it is our only relief!!! We will say a prayer for Todd and you for Friday Hope he gets better Keep us posted Misty backyard0wl wrote: Todd's 3rd cast was removed today!!! He is so very happy and wiggly! Guest guest
Hi denise, Max became very itchy after applying Calendula cream to his body after the cast was removed. We've used Aquaphor or Eucerin Cream. I would bathe him before he gets casted to get any lotions, ointments, etc... off. Aekta > > Todd's 3rd cast was removed today!!! Guest guest
Ian always had that problem when the cast came off. We used lotion. The skin isn't going to get soft in the short amount of time they are out of cast. Ian would scratch himself until he bled. It was easier when he wore onsies to keep him from scratching, but definitely harder as he got older!
