Guest guest
Gail....... ouchie...a broken rib is painful!!!!!!!! Try not to catch a cold( good hand washing) as coughing would not be fun.... I recently took a flu shot and four hours later started with a incredible runny nose, sneezing like a fool over and over......all very intense...I don't think I will get one again. This is day 2 and still my nose is running away with me..It must be an allergy to something in the shot...yikes..I hate it. I wish it would stop.... Anyways..I am so sorry you broke your rib, I hope you can get some relief..I too have had one thing after the other...we have got to get a break!! Love Liz **************Start the year off right. Guest guest
Gail, I broke my rib on Dec 14th.. And boy dose it hurt, so you have my sympathy. I can tell you that you should put ice on it all the time for the first 72 hours, then you should switch to heat. It does help some. Laughing will hurt as much as coughing. Most importantly, make sure you take really deep breaths at least once an hour. It's excrutiating to do, but if you don't you can get pneumonia. Coughing is bad... I had the hiccups - that was horrible - had them four times in one day... I kept praying that God would just end my suffering during that. They don't wrap broken ribs anymore because you have a higher chance of getting pneumonia if it is wrapped. I found that using a pillow against my side when coughing helped - try that out. I hate to tell you this and maybe it wont happen to you, but I felt my torn muscles get worse etc, about a week after I broke my rib. So it's been three weeks since I broke my rib, and I can finally move my arm around a bit without being in excrutiating pain. Today was really the first day that I even had a desire to leave the house for anything other than ER trips or Doctor appts. So I guess it is starting to get better. It still hurts. The docs say 2 months. So I guess we have to be patient. Anyway - if you have questions about other things I've done to get through this, feel free to ask I'm so sorry this happened to you - the last thing we need is a broken rib on top of stills. Take care, -- broken rib & other things Hey, Still's friends, just had to let you know about my day. Just got back from the ER and am suffering from a broken rib. All this because I was cleaning my bathtub and reached to get a towel and landed, full body weight, on the rim. Add to that fact that I have been suffering from a bad cold since Christmas Day, had to go on a antibiotic, and am still coughing. For those of you who've never broken a rib, coughing hurts! Apparently they don t do anything but treat the pain, they did make sure nothing was poking. My CBC was high over 17,000 but it's been high. They told me to check in with my RD in a few days to make sure. Thank goodness my son was home when this happened. I woke him up from a dead sleep, crying and screaming in pain. He was very calm (he's 20) and immediately took charge. He has grown up so much... he is leaving January 16th for Army Basic Training and I will miss him greatly! Then, when we got home, he asked if I was okay for a few minutes. I asked him what he was going to do and he said, " I am going to go fill in those two holes in the driveway. " Okay. Wow. I didn't even have to ask! I have been keeping up with everyone but have really felt too sick to respond to much. Sorry about that. I am hoping I don't suffer too much the next few days since I am already feeling other sore muscles as a result of the fall. Be well everyone! Excited to hear about your son going to the Army. I sure hope that is just what he needs. Sounds like he's a grown man already treating his mama right.
