Hi Barry

You are right, there is a life with RA, we just have to adapt. I try to

rest my joints when I have a flare as much as I can. I have only just

started on RA medication as I wanted to deal with it `naturally` but it

did`nt work. I take Meloxicam and Dihydrocodeine and Cocodamol when the

pain is not too bad.

I am sorry to hear about your wife leaving you and, no, I don`t think that

you are a winger! I have found that stress can bring on a flare. It can`t

be a coincidence every time. But you can`t live life without stress

unfortunately. I am fortunate that I have a darling of a husband who helps

me when I need him to. He has taken over all the water changing in my two

koi ponds and three aquariums because I could`nt manage it. I find my fish

very relaxing!

Where about in UK are you? I am in Plymouth, Devon.

Hugs

Sue

reason to be. This is a wonderful group...more like a family. Again

welcome.

Hi Barry, and welcome to the group! It's great that we're getting some male

input (although of course unfortunate what brings you to us). I agree with

you about trauma being a factor in the onset of the illness. I first had

symptoms five years ago after a major trauma, although I tried all kinds of

natural things to get well for years rather than going to the Dr. I have

read about the Turmeric before, and would like to try it someday.

You don't come across as sad, on the contrary you come across as brave and

determined.

Warmest regards,

Carol

[ ] My Rheumatoid Arthritis

Hi,

My name is Barry and I have suffered with Rheumatoid Arthritis for

over twenty years, when I got it I had it in every joint, except my

spine, I lost over 40 pounds in weight, and was told I would never

work again, but I went on to prove them all wrong.

My big belief is that it is sensitive people that are prone to the

illness, and a major worry or trauma can bring on the illness, in all

the years I have only met one Rheumatoid Arthritis specialist who was

any good, and he was the first one I saw all those years ago, he was

investigating into the case, and trying to find a cure for the

illness, within a year I had discarded my two walking sticks, and

started work again, I could no longer work as a Bricklayer, over the

years I looked after 32 unemployed people teaching the Construction

Industry, and for four years they built and repaired many buildings

round my home town, we even worked on Selby Abby, and then went on

to be a Construction Manager.

The main rule he taught me was, it is the inflammation that destroys

the joints, its well known now, but unfortunately this specialist

left his research, and I was left in the hand of a lot of smug

arrogant people, passing them selves of as specialist, I now have to

take a pill every day because my Oesophagus is damaged, I need new

shoulder and elbow joints, as they are just rubbing bone to bone, but

that was my fault, I tried to plaster a room, and destroyed them my

self, I have had a new hip for about six years.

Over the last four years I have been in the hands of what I was told

the top specialist in the UK, and over that period I told them, if

they did not do something to quell the pain, my wife would leave me,

as she was going through a difficult period, and I could not be fully

supportive to her while I was swamped with a high level of pain, she

left me a year ago, and by that time it took me all my time to button

my shirt, I was that bad, I had to go to my own Doctor and tell him

what was wrong with me, and I could not function, I now manage my

house look after the garden, and can now do small jobs around the

house, I am still on my own, but although I still have a good deal of

pain I am getting by, and feel like a human being again, and I owe

this to me now taking Vioxx and Dihydrocodeine and Zoton for my

Oesophagus.

Over the years I have tried many herbal remedies, some of them after

I had boiled them up I had to through the pan away, as it penetrated

the enamel, the other thing was to be aware of your pain, in my early

days I would get up and I would be in more pain than the day before,

I would then go back through that day to find out what I had eaten

that day that was different, and then cut out that item, in the early

days if I had a cup of tea it was as if red hot lava was passing

through my body.

Out of all that I have tried Turmeric worked for me, I just took two

capsules before going to bed, and it would give me a reasonable

nights sleep, not the raw Turmeric it was a extract of it, and I

found that they had been using it in India for more than two thousand

years, there are many web sites on the subject.

I hope that I haven't come over as some sad person, thinking that

life has dished me out a raw deal, or a expert on the subject, I just

keep a open mind to my illness, and although its too late to recover

my damaged joints life will not get me down, only death will beat me,

and hope I can pass on to other people, that there is a life with

Arthritis, be it a hard and painful one.

Hi there Barry,

I'm Judy from Indiana and believe me, this group can really be helpful.

If you have questions someone here will either have an answer or help you

find where to look for them.

If you are down tell us, we'll try to cheer you up. Sometimes just sit back

and reading the posts are pick-me-ups.

we all need each other, that's why God put such beautiful people here.

Ya know, when I went for a scan I was told by the tech. that he had never

seen a person with RA that wasn't a really nice person. He said, 'I don't

know why it hits nice people, why not some of those nasty mean folks out

there " .

I can most times tell the group more than my loved ones cause I know they

will understand.

So welcome, hope to be reading your posts.

Judy from Indy
