Guest guest
Carol, I called a Rheumy to get an appt as a new patient. They wanted to know who referred me and I replied that I had a PPO and didn't need one. They said he likes to co-treat and needs another dr to help. After explaining that my dr closed his practice and moved and I had all of my records, she still said that he wouldn't treat me without a referral because that was the rule. I asked her to explain my situation because I didn't see the need to go see another dr I didn't know just so I could see him. She called me back and said the rule couldn't be broken. I replied to her that I didn't think he was the kind of dr I wanted to see if he didn't understand that sometimes the rules have to be put aside due to a certain situation. He couldn't see me for 3 months even if I went to my GP first. I did manage to find a new one that will see me in 3 weeks. I've never had someone tell me that the DR needed a co-Dr, have you? Iris > You don't need a referral to go to a rheumatologist. __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Wow, Iris, I've never heard of that before. I guess some rheumys DO require a referral. I think you made a good point that if he weren't willing to bend the rules on occasion you didn't want him for a Dr. I'm glad you were able to find another rheumy to see you sooner. I hope you have a pain free day. Hugs, Carol RE: [ ] new dr referral Carol, I called a Rheumy to get an appt as a new patient.
