Hi ,

I take Paxil 20 mg 1 at bedtime for supposedly my fibromyalgia. I myself

don't see any difference with or without it. I take it as part of the whole

package that the rheumy says will help. I do take Ambien for sleep.

After I delivered my first daughter, I had a very bad case of post partem

depression. Didn't try to hurt or neglect the baby, just myself. Now during

that time, I knew something was wrong but could not express it to anyone

including myself. I stopped eating, could not sleep at night, took no

pleasure in any activities and finally started taking large doses of aspirin

to try to get rid of this feeling. Well, " this feeling " was actually

depression. When I finally ended up in the hospital with a MAJOR GI bleed

and needed to be transfused, my physicians put everything together and

determined that I had post partem depression. When they put me on several

anti depressants until we found the right one, I FINALLY noticed that the

anti depressants did make a difference and my sleep patterns came back, I

started eating, my sex drive returned and life in general started looking a

whole lot better again. Now this was also combined with psychotherapy. I

was on medication/psychotherapy for about 2 years and was never bothered by

it again even in my subsequent pregnancies.

With the low dose that I am receiving on the Paxil, I don't even notice it if

I run out for a day or two.

Gentle, tender, angel hugs,

Debs in FL

:My first daignosis was FM...before they decided I

had scleroderma/lupus....my rheumy keeps telling me

any time you have a chronic pain condition you usually

end up with fibro...I am sure that will will start a

discusion...girls???oops and guys???...anyway they had

me on about every tryciclit(Sp) you can think

of...elavil...pamelor...nortripiline...then they

started with

prozac....zoloft....desyrl....buspar....you name

it.....finally settled on paxil...the one thing I

found that did work for sleep was ambien....the only

thing is if you dont go to sleep right away it means

it wont work that night ...the good thing is you dont

wake up feeling like you have a hang over which is how

I felt after taking some of the others...I hope this

helps and I am sure there will be other answers...they

may help more....I will say if you can get the sleep

thing under control that will probably be a big

help....Kathi in OK

PS: Different drugs work differently for people

sometimes it takes awhile to get the right one.....

Dear :

I take Elavil at night to sleep and it works

wonderfully. I also take wellbuitron which helps with

depression. I can't take SSRI-Prozac because it made

me crazy! As I am reading more and more about

neuroceptor burnouts due to SSRI's I am glad that I

don't take them anymore.

I hope you find something that works for you.

Hi,

Please explain what you mean by " neuroceptor burnouts " -- I'm a

long-time paxil user tapering my dose down very slowly because

of concerns about its addictive quality.

Hi , I take Effexor 75mg at bedtime, have for about 2 years. Then I was

given Nortriptaline 30mg for 6 months on top of the Effexor but didn't see any

difference so I stopped taking it. Felt no difference when I stopped. I'm

doing ok but I also take Neurontin 800mg at bedtime also to block pain. I feel

the difference if I don't take it.

[ ] antidepressants for chronic pain mgmt and fm

Hi Group,

I was wondering if anyone could give me their experiences if they take anti

depressants for fm or chronic pain management. I take 150mg of Trazodone(Desyrl)

at bedtime and i have not seen any improvement in 3 or 4 months. Does anyone

have a better medicine? This pain just makes life no fun at all. I will check

back before bedtime because i see the dr tomorrow. Thanks everyone.

Dear Charlotte - There are several new books out about

this. I'm so sorry that I can't remember the name -

maybe " Prozac Burnout " .

We all have to decide if the quality of our lives

without these medications are worth the effects they

cause. That is a question I think we try to answer on

a daily basis. I'm sure your librarian could help you

find the books. Iris
