Hi ! There must be several ongoing Enbrel studies going on, each with

different methodology. Keep us all informed on how this goes for you. We'll

be pulling for you! Love, Bunny

Georgina,

Ashton goes back to the rheumatologist the 11th of April.... she goes to

Duke University they are doing an Enbrel study right now on kids with JRA ..I

will let you know what I find out on this end.. We are also curious as Enbrel

has been offered to Ashton ,,on a study basis Btu we are a little leary given

the fact that fatal infections have been reported & these days Ashton has

seemed to have her share of illness. Glad to hear all is going well with Josh

right now & his meds.. Kris

Kris,

My son Robbie takes Enbrel. I was also very concerned about the

infection problem. His rheumatologist has been very careful in

not allowing him to be injected at any sign of infection, fever, etc.

When Robbie started with a new primary care doctor (a specialist

for kids with multiple doctors) he thought we were being too careful.

I challenged both doctors to come with guidelines to inject or

not to inject. They really did their homework. They read all information

available to them and checked with ped. rheumatologists in Seattle

and Salt Lake City. The end result was we were being to careful.

The original studies were conducted on adults that had multiple

health problems, they were not even sure the infection problems

were Enbrel related. There has not been any significant problems

with Enbrel and infections in children. They think adults are far

more likely to have this problem. We are still not going to inject

if Robbie has an infection or a fever to be safe, but we will inject

if he has a nonproductive cough for example. I can't wait for more

studies on children to be available, with a drug this new there are

always risks. Jana

Though Skyler has been prone to many illnesses we have never had a problem over

injection site infection or increased illnesses like flu or pneumonia.

Thanks for the input Jana..gives me more to think about it's always scary to

switch or add meds! I am leaning towards the Enbrel ... as my daughter has

Poly JRA & I am hoping to get her into at least a medicated remission! kris

Kris,

Alana is doing wonderfully with embrel. We seem to need to combine both

enbrel and mtx for the best response. When trying to eliminate the mtx,

which we almost did, she started to flair slightly, we increased the mtx and

she was fine. her dosage is the enbrel 2 injections a week and we've

gotten down to about .3cc a week of mtx.
