Guest guest
Hey Everybody So I was thinking today of some ideas to make summer easier for Hadley. Especially after our family reunion up at my husband's grandparents cottage where there is sand and lots of water play. I thought, well, we just can't go! Its not fair! But Im not sure thats an option eather. My 3 year old loves it. She loves the sand and water and Hadley would too, but obviously can't get to enjoy it. BUT i was thinking, what if we tried a children's wet suit!? Has anybody tried it? I dont know id feel completely comfortable just putting her in the water with it, but at least maybe she could do some sand play and dip a bit in the w ater without it effecting her cast at all. What does everybody think? Would it work? Thanks Shauna
Guest guest
I think Darrel has a wetsuit for Dylan and I don’t think they have had any problems. I’m sure he’ll chime in once he sees this post. HRH wetsuits Hey Everybody So I was thinking today of some ideas to make summer easier for Hadley. Guest guest
I'm unsure... but wouldn't she be very hot? If it works, let us know... would be a great way for our kids to get in waterplay if it does!!!! Guest guest
Darrell, I love the pictures. He looks so happy! Where do you find something like a dry suit and does it keep the water completely out? What exactly is a dry suit? Isnt it the same as a wet suit? Thanks for your response! ShaunaSubject: Re: wetsuitsTo: infantile_scoliosis Date: Monday, August 25, 2008, 3:36 PM It is actually a drysuit not a wetsuit. If you go into Photos I have some pictures of Dylan in his kiddie pool in our backyard. We also let him play in the bathtub and shower. Even though it only gets his head hands and feet wet he has a blast. Darrell > > I think Darrel has a wetsuit for Dylan and I don't think they have had any > problems. Guest guest
Hi Shauna Drysuits and wetsuits are designed to keep you warm in the water. I convinced a Divesuit manufacturer in BC Canada to make him one. So it is actually a mini divesuit. If you look back to a post I did in January (194200) that is how I came up with the idea and I did not get new golf clubs this year. Wetsuits are usually made from neoprene. But you get wet in them it uses a thin layer of water which your body heats up between the suit and your body to keep you warm. Drysuits have latex or neoprene seals witch in turn trap air inside and keep water out so your body heats up this air to keep you warm. Both are used to maintain body temperature in the water. When we first got Dylans Drysuit I was concerned about it being black but the guy's there told me that 90% of all suits are black to retain heat. Dylan actually wears his clothes under we put over what ever he is wearing that day. The drysuit holds air and you can adjust the amount to have him float or walk on the bottom. It actually works as a life jacket. We have had no overheating problems at all or leaks. But this suit takes 2 people to put it on the seals around the legs and arms are easy the one around the neck takes some practice. First couple times are alittle tuff but after that its easy. I dont know about real little ones trying this Dylan was over 2 years and he's a tough kid. Guest guest
HI Darrell, Sounds like a lot more involved in trying this than i thought. So im assuming they do not regularly make these for young kids... since you had to convince them to make one small enough to fit your child. Hadley is only 16 months so i suppose she's a bit young. I thought about trying one of those swim suits that are like shorts and a shirt, but are all one peice just to let her play ni the sand without sand getting in her cast. Obviously putting her in the water still would not work, but at least she'd get to play in the sand a litttle bit. So, does a wet suit keep you dry as well? I did see some wetsuits that were small enough and didnt look as bulky eather. Would that work too besides using a dry suit? I know you explained the difference in your e-mail... i wa sjust a little confused! Guest guest
Hi Shauna, I used to dive many moons ago and I think the problem you would run into is overheating in a wetsuit (water does go through a wetsuit) but the neoprene insulates, so I think Hadley would get too hot while trying to play in the sand. Guest guest
Hi Steph Thanks The guys that made the suit are the creative ones. I just have a wild imagination. I just did not want my son to not experience what its like to play in water. Just because he has to wear a cast. I want him to experience everything other kids take for granted. The pool has been a great distraction for him and our whole family. He has a blast and many laughs and thats all that counts!!! The first time we took him swimming You could not wipe the smile from his face. To see him so happy is the most important thing to me cast or no cast in whatever he does. Guest guest
Hi Shauna I paid $250.00 Canadian plus shipping $25.00 I thought it was a very small price to pay. I was expecting to pay in the area of 5 to 6 hundred. Thats how much the ones in the UK would have cost to get it here.
