Barbie Dolls.......My wife has around 20 of them, mainly the " collectible "

ones......she was going to sell them awhile back as they " were supposed to

be worth money " .....what a joke! With EVERYTHING being considered

collectible anymore, they aren't even worth what was paid for them, and most

of them are in never opened boxes!

The only time stuff is worth money is when you want to buy

it........other than that it is worth shit. My Brother gave my sons a few

thousand dollars (almost 27 years worth) of never open Topps baseball &

football cards when they were born. We never let them touch them, just

figured we'd store them until they were older and maybe the kids would get a

nice chunk of change for them....NOT!!!!! My brother had a card that was

valued at $2500.00...the best offer he received from anyone in a few years

was $75.00. I guess it's true, a sucker is born every minute......and those

suckers are the people who buy off of these " dealers " (you know the type,

have a Kiosk in a mall and make everything sound as rare and valuable as

possible)...that is...until you try to sell them something. Too bad I have a

conscience..I would love to make thousands of percentages worth of profit on

stuff I sold!

I even have a true story that involves me & a " collector " . I love

railroad history and (prior to getting ill) was building a rather large N

scale train layout. I was at a train store one day when a guy walked in with

a box of stuff he was looking to dump......he had an old N scale engine in

" Lehigh Valley " colors (that is what my main road was going to be) so I

bought it off of him for $20.00,...... I also bought a few other odds & ends

he had, and the store owner bought the rest. A while later as I was getting

ready to check out a guy spots this engine I bought earlier and asks me if I

would sell it to him, he collects them. I told him no, this fits the

prototypical time frame of what I'm modeling, thank you. The guy was stunned

and in a loud voice said (You're not planning on running that are you? Do

you know it is one of 200 made and is worth a small fortune? " .....I made his

day even further when I showed him some of the airbrush paints I was buying

as I told him the first thing I was going to do when I got home was airbrush

it to make it look old, dirty and worn!

He through a shit fit, literally. People like him are the reason many

people can't afford " toys " like this, as idiots like these buy them to say

they have them and keep edging up the value. I did find out the train was

worth roughly $500.00, but I would rather give it to my sons when it is

their turn to have a hobby rather than make some yuppie add to his

" valuable " collection for prestige purposes only. SCREW THOSE PEOPLE!!!!!

Later, I'm running late..have to go to wally mart and spend some more

damn money.

Kirk.
