Guest guest
Dear Tess: I had the small intestinal bypass 30 years ago. It worked pretty well, however I had gained some weight back so I went on Opti-fast and that worked for a few years. Then 14 years ago or so I started to gain at an alarming rate. I would diet, lose 20, put back on 25. The new doctor that I have looked over my history and pointed out to me that the weight gain began to get dramatic shortly after I was put on Elavil for the pain in my thigh. I've gained a hundred pounds since I went on the medication. Also, I have a rapid pulse that was in the 120's to the 140's when I was put on Atenolol a couple of years ago which brought it down to the 90's. I may even have the rare side affect that someone else mentioned here last week. (This after a breast reduction from a double e to a b in 1975 and since 1990 have gone back up to a double d) My new doctor took me off the Elavil and put me on Trazadone. I'm hoping the new medicine will be as effective in helping to reduce the pain. I have several friends in the past year that have had the Gastric Bypass and are doing well. At least 4 were over 300 lbs. Love and prayers on your decision. Also, I was not offended by your telling of the abuse, in fact I admire you for being able to deal with it so well. I find it cathargic to be able to talk about it now - there was the time I could not. Thanks for being able to share.
