Hi ,

Thanks for your kind words. Naperville isn't as close as Gurnee but

who would think that 3 of us would be this close? So, is it safe to

assume you're a big Wildcat's fan?

I am fortunate that there are many people I can talk to and am very

happy to have joined this group of wonderful folks, like yourself.

I am only on Enbrel, but believe this will probably change soon in

light of recent developments. I am using an Albuterol inhaler right

now to help my breathing but this is only supposed to provide short-

term relief until I talk to my Rheumy. The " problem " with me is that

my liver is extremely sensitive to drugs with a high toxicity. I have

been on Methotrexate, Arava, Celebrex, Vioxx, Prednisone, and

Naproxyn. Either they bring me no relief or send my liver enzymes

skyrocketing. I still take a dosepack of Predinsone when I have a

flare.

Again, thank you for writing back. I appreciate it.

All my best,

Al in IL

Hi Al,

I had the same thing last month with chest pain and a feeling like it was

hard to take a breath. My MD gave me Albuterol, but it really only made me

jittery. When I talked to my rheumy about it, he said it was RA related.

I hope it passes soon.

Hugs,

Carol

Hi Carol,

Yes, it makes me a wee bit jittery also. Did your rheumy prescribe

anything or tell you anything? Please let me know.

Thanks!

Hi Al,

The only thing my rheumy said was that doing a prednisone taper when I get

the chest pain would help the symptoms subside. He gives me prednisone with

instructions that when I am having a flare, I should do a 20-15-10-5 (3 days

ea) taper.

Your rheumy may want to take another approach. Have you been getting any

results from the Albuterol? When I get the chest pain it feels like

tightness and constant pain in the lung area, that gets worse when I take a

deep breath. The Albuterol didn't do much to help it.

I hope you're feeling better soon!

Hi Carol,

I started to reply and was brought back to your message so if you get

a partial reply, please disregard. Unfortunately, the Albuterol isn't

helping much except making me a bit jittery after I take it. Although

I would never talk myself into an illness, the definition of

pulmonary hypertension on one of the links was kind enough to

post shows symptoms that are almost identical to mine. Shortness of

breath that gets worse while one exercises, lightheadedness, fatigue.

I have been having all of these and they are progressively getting

worse.

I'll be curious to see what the results of my chest x-rays are.

Thanks for your good wishes.

Hi Al:

I have chronic asthma and know what it is like to be

unable to take a breath without wheezing or coughing -

not being able to breathe can be very scary. I take a

steroid/bronchodialator med called Advair daily and

hopefully this will help control my asthma. Before

that, I was taking Flovent (another steroid) and

Singulair tabs - the new med is a combination of these

two types of meds so that I only have to take one

thing now instead of two. I also have an Albuteral

inhaler for acute attacks. It does cause you to be a

little light headed and dizzy when you first take it

but you should begin to tolerate it better with

useage.

I hope that you find out what is causing your lung

problems - I always worry about RA causing lung

problems with my having asthma anyway, and I hear that

Metho can also aggravate the lungs. Let us know how

you are doing - hope you are feeling better soon.

Hi kathe,

Thanks for the information and your concern. Coincidentally, my PCP

is putting me on Advair because I am not getting the relief he

expected with Albuterol.

Luckily, I am able to breath but there is definitely a shortness of

breath. My chest also has a heavy feeling and I feel out of it. My

brain isn't working like it normally does. It's hard for me to stay

focused for too long. And, I am tired and shaky.

I am still waiting for most of my blood tests to come in. Haven't

heard how my ANA, ESR, and CRP are, but my calcium levels are high. I

take supplements for my osteo but it shouldn't cause these symptoms.

I am curious to see what my chest x-rays look like.

I have to have some more blood taken today but my PCP didn't tell me

for what when he left the message on my voice-mail. I hate when they

do that...;)

I finally spoke to my rheumy and she is making sure I have the right

tests given on Friday. They are going to do a pulmonary function

test. If that's abnormal, a CT scan is next and we go from there.

She also wants me in as soon as my tests are complete and is

prescribing a dosepack for me.

I have to be honest. The thought of not being able to breath normally

again is pretty scary. I can only begin to imagine how horrific it is

for you Kathe with your asthma.

Take care.

Hi Al,

I have been on Advair as soon as it came onto the American market, about 18

months ago. Please watch the strength that the doc puts you on as the higher

up you go, the more prednisone is in the inhaler. It is nice in that you

only use it twice a day and it is a dry powder type of thing.

I had a very bad asthma attack at Christmas and was given the 250 and I blew

up like a Macy's Day Parade Float. Some of the weight did come off, but the

water retention almost killed me (literally)! But generally, the benefits are

great. I still keep my Albuteral inhaler for fast relief as Advair is a

twice a day kind of thing. Ain't this disease great!!!!!

Have a good one!
