An elite gymnast on the cheerleading squad, she looked forward to a successful and athletic life. But tragedy struck in her senior year when she was crippled by Steele's disease, an early form of rheumatoid arthritis. Her doctors prescribed narcotics to ease her pain, but soon became addicted. Her heartbroken family has sought new treatments to help , but she denies she's an addict. Now her family has turned in desperation to their last hope--an intervention. Guest guest
Hi Jody. I did watch it and I cried through most of it. My heart hurt for her, her family and brought back so many of my own memories. The actual program nevers identifies her as having Still's Disease. They only mentioned RA and Lyme's, sound familiar?? I am thinking the SD diagnosis must have come after she was admitted in the treatment program. It doesn't talk so much about SD. It focuses on her addiction to prescription drugs. Which shes does not feel she has a problem since the doctor's prescribe those meds. Her family sees her just down right as an addict. They aren't thinking about the pain she is suffering. It was emotional. Something else that is interesting about is she is a twin. For the old-timers here, remember when we did a poll on how many of us had twins? It was uncanny. It makes me wonder again, how many of us out here are twins? Keep on KEEPIN' ON! Jody Klein wrote: If anyone watched this, please let me know what you thought. Guest guest
Yeah, I saw that. I found myself angry at her sisters for blocking her out rather than sending someone over to help her come to their special events. No one seemed to care about the thing razor we all deal with between alleviating our pain and becoming dependant on the medications we take to do so. She didn't fail, the medical industry failed her by simply allowing prescription after prescription with no follow up on a regular basis. The girl deserved better. Still's Disease is often called RA simply so you don't have to go in to lengthy explanations.
