Kathy,

Interesting about the heels...I remember both Rand and Boachie had

me walk around on my tip toes and heels in my eval. I think it

demonstrates what kind of neural involvement and at what

level....but I don't know for sure...anyway..that may be at least

part of your difficutly.

My PT has me doing those balance exercises standing on one

leg...after I am balanced I have to close my eyes and see how long I

can do it...also better on one side than the other. She says this

will be important to continue to do as it helps keep good balance to

minimise the risks of falls later on (or even now I guess). Of

course your flat back makes this an extra challenge for you.

I think it is great that you are able to get a workout in while

seated...it doesn't matter how you get that heart rate up...as long

as you do...at least that is what I've read!

I am back on a quasi-South Beach diet...really just watching what I

eat and hoping to get to a good fittness/weight/flexibility by my

50th in June....that is my goal!

Keep up the good work! Cam

Kathy,Hi I need to do exercises also, what time of the day is that on TV? I just got a call from Priscilla she said Dr.Rand gave me a script to do water therapy to get my stomach and back stronger before surgery. So I will start that next week but I was looking for a stretching and strenghting video or on TV..Just wondering, cause I am really out of shape too..Thanks,Vonnietxbluebelle <txbluebelle@...> wrote: I can't remember who, but SOMEONE on here mentioned they liked to do these exercises on PBS. I have tried them the last couple of days and it only goes to show I am in REALLY rotten shape! I can still do some of the twists and turns with my lower spine, but my neck and shoulders are a tight mess! And I'm totally winded at the end of 20 minutes of exercise that you do while you are

sitting! The finger exercises are the only thing I excel at! (as long as they don't involve my thumb which hurts terribly)There are also a few exercises where you simply stand on one foot or the other and I have found I am MUCH more steady on my right foot than I am on my left. Also I am better on tiptoes than heels. Heels are impossible! Now if someone will tell me a gentle stomach strengthening exercise I can hurt all over!LOLKathy

Just wanted to jump in here and say that there is a video, "Yoga for Scoliosis", that you can get through the National Scoliosis Foundation, www.scoliosis.org . It is a nice stretching exercise that you do to your limit, and you do get stronger as the muscles stretch and become more flexible. Some of the exercises are not recommended for fused backs, which are mainly twisting. Just listen to your body and don't go beyond hurt.
