Guest guest
Hi , I am also on methotrexate(15 mg)  and folic acid (1mg). I take 6 methotrexate pills on Sunday only and I also take the folic acid 7 days a week.  I was never told not to. I have read where you should take the metho....in the a.m. and folic acid 12 hours later, but I never do....I just start off with the prednisone in the a.m. first thing..then 1 lasix and one toprol...and then later a folic acid...and later an omega3-6-9.... and continue on  I write it all down so I dont forget because I cant remember sometimes if I took it or not!  And other days I remember what my daughter was wearing on her first day of kindergarten or the suit my son wore on his First Holy Communion day!! oh well  comes with age too I guess... Guest guest
Hi Joan While on MTX, I took Folic Acid (over the counter) every day, including my MTX day. I was never told not to take it on that day. just FYI -- It also helps with strengthening your hair and nails. Guest guest
I also have a Rx for Folenic Acid (spelling?) that I can take 2 days after I take MTX to reverse the process from the MTX if I get too sick. I haven't used it yet. Mark MTX - mark and Jody Mark adn Jody, Mark should be taking prescription folic acid with the MTX. It helps combat the side effects. Guest guest
Hi Joan, I have heard others say not to take folic acid on MTX day. None of my rheumy's ever told me this, so I don't know if it's a popular opinion or not. But i do know that taking folic acid daily sure does help - at least it helped me a lot when I was on MTX. Obviously not enough though since I did end up switching to Arava! I've never done any research into taking folic acid with MTX or not since I'm no longer on it, but would be interesting to find out for real what is the preferred. Guest guest
Hi I did ask my rheumy. why I shouldn't take folic acid on the day I take MTX and she said that it just made the MTX slightly less effective. Thanks for your reply All the best Joan U.K. _____ From: Stillsdisease [mailto:Stillsdisease ] On Behalf Of a_cone Sent: 10 January 2008 13:52 To: Stillsdisease Subject: Re: MTX - mark and Jody Hi Joan, I have heard others say not to take folic acid on MTX day. Guest guest
The shot form of MTX does have less side effects for me. Most of the time I have loose stools (sorry to be graphic) the next morning, but with the pills, the GI upset went on for a few days. My Rheumie says that Folic acid is a must. In the beginning, I took an oral liquid medicine (forgot the name) that is also used for thrush in the mouth, to clear the sores up then went to Folic Acid. Blessings to all & good luck! Guest guest
Because I haven't been sick enough to warrant it. I've been nauseous, but never threw up. I also get headaches, but liveable. They reduced me back down to 11 pills. It's not great, but it's not bad enough. Mark MTX - mark and Jody Mark adn Jody, Mark should be taking prescription folic acid with the MTX. Guest guest
Mark, Hi... I hope you feel better today than yesterday, but not as good as tomorrow will bring.. 11 pills are not great but like you said..it is not bad enough.  My husband has an ascending aortic aneurysm and high blood pressure. He has to go for a ct scan of his chest, abdomen and pelvis soon to see if it grew any. Last time it was 4.5 cm  The Dr.'s do not do anything until it gets to 5cm (or unless it bursts, which if that happens it usually is too late)..talk about stress...he takes 3 pills a day and crabs about that...I just laugh at him...What is so hard about taking a sip of water if it is going to help you..I ask him?? I guess if this is what helps why not do it..I wonder sometimes if this Stills that we have is like a form of our bodies saying '''sllllooooooooow doooooooooowwwwnn!!!!!'' Everyone who seems to tell their stories is always working like crazy and very hard too. The folic acid that I take is supposed to prevent anemia (which if one is (anemic) they will be very tired)..or so I thought.
