Guest guest
I'm catching up on emails and was thinking about Lara's montage song for . I've spoken to Lara about her choice and we were saying how particular songs makes you think of your kids. I got to thinking about the songs i used to sing (In a spectacularly bad lullaby style....) to my kids when they were babies. My eldest used to have 'everything I do,(I do it for you)' and The Beatles 'Ticket to ride' My middle used to have The Carpenters 'close to you'. Nic used to have a couple of lullabies of his own. But Nic stopped being soothed when he was about 6 months old and his screaming and arching drowned out all attempts to rock him and nurse him, so I stopped singing to him (and took up wrestling instead...) Fast forward 2 years and he's like a different child, so cuddly and snuggly that I've taken up singing again (!!) Last night at bedtime I found myself singing 'our songs' to him and was struck by how powerful and poignant the lyrics are for my family. (Wish you could hear me singing... all together now!) The first was the theme from Disney's Aladdin... " I can show you the world Shining, shimmering, splendid ........... I can open your eyes Take you wonder by wonder over, sideways and under on a magic carpet ride A whole new world, a new fantastic point of view No one to tell us no, or where to go Or say we're only dreaming A whole new world A dazzling place I never knew, but when I'm way up here it's crystal clear that now I'm in a whole new world with you Unbelievable sights, indescribable feeling, soaring, tumbling, freewheeling through an endless diamond sky A whole new world, a hundred thousand things to see I'm like a shooting star, i've come so far I can't go back to where I used to be A whole new world with new horizons to pursue I'll chase them anywhere there's time to spare Let me share this whole new world with you A whole new world ............... A thrilling chase, A wondrous place, For you and me The Carpenters 'Only yesterday' is our other song. Just the chorus this time cos I'm sure that you people know it " baby, baby feels like maybe things will be all right Baby, baby your love's made me free as a song singing forever, only yesterday when i was sad and i was lonely You showed me the way to leave the past and all its tears behind me Tomorrow may be even brighter than today Since i threw my sadness away Only yesterday " Corny, but they sum up exactly how I feel. I wonder why I found myself singing those songs when he was a baby? Long before his autism appeared? Jane x
