Guest guest
Ellen Oh no, I think you mistook what I said. That is that it's totally up to the person as to whether or not they should get a flu shot and it should never be required. My point is just that whether you get the shot or not will have little impact on other areas of your health. The best studies have shown the vaccine (when created properly) to be beneficial in preventing the types of flu is it designed to prevent. It has saved lives. Whether you choose to get the shot for yourself is your decision. We should be aware that it is available if we choose to get it. I've never seen anything that indicates that normally healthy adults should get the vaccine because there simply is not enough to vaccinate everyone. It is my opinion and my opinion only that anyone taking immune suppression medications such as are prescribed to Still's patients should confer with their doctor to see if the vaccine would be beneficial given their lowered immune system. There is always some risk. Especially in that the vaccine can be fatal if prepared improperly. Vaccines have their own issues. I saw a fairly convincing article that showed beyond a reasonable doubt to me that it was doctors racing to create a vaccine for I think it was Polio that inadvertently started the AIDS epidemic by using primates to create vaccines faster. As with any medical technology, when you mess with stuff you do not fully understand you can get bitten by it. My personal opinion is that the flu vaccine in the US is safe and effective. Yes some will have reactions but they are usually mild. Those that do have reactions are probably the same that would suffer the most if they did get the virus. Like you I would drop all this technology to go live in the country and a slower pace of life. But, I am a computer technician and there just are not that many jobs for us out there in the mountains or farmlands. In short, I agree with all your points. You are also correct about the use of chemicals in our environment and ourselves, our homes, the air and everything else we come in contact with. If it weren't for my husband (city boy) I'd have gone back to farming years ago! Farming to my husband is a bunch of plants in pots on the porch. That's exactly what I have too but more like a jungle on my patio which includes three huge Aloe Vera plants. And yes, I use them on a regular basis. I'm not a naturalist or a back to nature kind of person but I'm also not materialistic, and, in fact would actually prefer a quieter existance in the country. Even that is poisoned, I'm sure. Our strains of the flu are not the same as they once were or our bodies developed enough anti-bodies to fight it off better. The food we take in, some of it local most of it foreign (and expensive) helps to feed the natural fight. I'm not even talking about organic (another discussion for another time). The point I'm trying to make is that the shot is NOT for everyone though it's being pushed that way. You do as you need to in order to fight the best you can, I will fend off the flu in my own manner as best I can. Not to say one is better than the other - it's just which works for us. Does that makes more sense and less abrasive? By the way Darv, thanks, it's been awhile since anyone has debated with me. It feels good. I grew up in that kind of environment; loud, almost forceful debates about some of the most ridiculous things. I miss that. Take care and be well.
