I've only been brewing a couple of months and have wanted to meet other brewers in the area to compare brews and learn. I noticed her SCOBYs are really dark (almost black) all the way thru. I went ahead and started some brews with them, but i've moved them away from my brewing area. She had some unusual directions, including adding a spoonful of vinegar. She also put a tablespoon of frozen concentrated juice in each bottle and second fermented for 5 days making it super fizzy. The brews got really frothy quickly, but seem to be ok so far. She used all black tea, i've always used green or part green. Could that cause her SCOBYs to be dark? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
