I have a jar opener. Sometimes I can do it and some times not. It takes a good bit of downward force to get it to grip...and sometimes that is too much. But it is more effective that not having anything.

I will look for one like you are describing. It sounds a bit better than one I have.

This one looks like a Y with the top closed in and with teeth along the inside edges to grip. I think it would be better if it were a little deeper and the teeth gripped not so close to the top edge.

Jacy,

About opening jars -- I'm sure tons of people have suggested this already and maybe you even have one, but just on the off chance no one has and you don't, I figured it can't hurt to say it. They make Jar Opening devices that work absolute wonders. The one I have looks kind of like a plastic wrench with a big strip of rubber attached to the end. You loop the strip around the top of the jar and then you can use your entire upper body strength to turn the wrench, not just your hands. I've even been able to clutch the wrench between my forearms and turn it that way on really bad days when my hands wouldn't close into a grip. It has a groove down the middle that you lay the rubber strip in so you can adjust the length of the loop to fit any size jar top. I use it to open regular jars, soda bottles, pretty much anything. It's a lifesaver. I can't even open a two-liter bottle without it. There are other kinds of devices made for the same purpose but I always had trouble with them until I found this particular model.

Jacy,

I have one of the kind you describe and it's pretty worthless - it's

the only Good Grips tool I haven't liked.

I have a rubber thing shaped like a figure 8 but not equal parts and

the inside has grabbing knobbie things. You put one circle around

the bottle and grab the other to tighten. It's a little better but

not too much.

There are EO's that will work but if you don't have any of those I

heard this works.

Take a peice of brown paper bag, the ones from the store and burn a

small peice of it. Take the black liquid that is created from that

and smear that on.

I've never done this myself, just passing it along.

========================

Hi Kait,

Do you have any Black Walnut hulls that you can tincture up? Golden

Seal? Oak bark? Any of these will work quite well against ring worm.

Also tea tree oil is very good for ringworm. The Black Walnut hull

tincture, Golden Seal tincture and Oak bark tinctures can be used on the

pups safely. You can use them too. There are many mixed views on using

essential oils with pets so I would suggest you don't. But you can use

Tea Tree on yourself very safely.

Peace be with you Kait and welcome to the group.

I think all it means is that they haven't found the problem yet. I don't think you can rule anything out because x rays don't show up a lot of things. Also this could be caused by a lot of things not related to RA. Perhaps you should see a pulmonologist (lung specialist). God bless.

It's across the board! We all had a tough weekend with our RA. I saw my rheumy this morning and I mentioned that I was so exhausted on Friday, that maybe it had something to do with my methotrexate dose on Thursday night? I know we've discussed folic acid/metho and some of you had said that you skip the folic acid on the days you take the methotrexate. Since none of my doctors had mentioned that, plus my last rheumy had me on folgard instead of folic acid, maybe this change will help make the metho more effective. I ended up getting two cortisone shots in my ankle today. Hopefully that will make a difference in the weeks to come.

I haven't, but I would definitely talk to HR and/or a manager about her.

I used to be a department manager and had to deal with that a time or two.

It needs to be stopped and someone in a position to do that needs to be told.

Good luck.

I don't remember all that has been posted on this before but

another useful trick is to take a higher level and lower

level on alternate days such as 4, 3, 4, 3. This might

reduce how much pill splitting you need to do. God bless.

Have your doc prescribe the 1 mg pills.

It is too inaccurate to break the fivers down.

You can break the one mg into quarters...inagine the

When I was on 5mg Prednisone, I used to divide that tiny

Here's just a very little bit of information about this. "The cause of trigeminal neuralgia is occasionally a blood vessel or small tumor pressing on the nerve. Disorders such as multiple sclerosis (an inflammatory disease affecting the brain and spinal cord), certain forms of arthritis, and diabetes (high blood sugar) can also cause trigeminal neuralgia, but most commonly a cause is not identified."

http://www.shands.org/health/information/article/001407.htm

I think arthritis causes inflammation and swelling, and this may press on a nerve to cause neuralgia. Anyway that's my attempt to explain the possible connection. God bless.

There is a concern that poultry farm workers are at risk for avian

flu. To date, many of those who have become ill and died in other

countries, became infected while working closely with infected

poultry. While US poultry is not currently infected, scientists

hypothesize that they might become infected by migratory birds.

Ellen Silbergeld of s Hopkins University gave a talk on this

subject at a recent JHU symposium. She might be willing to share her

overheads with you.

Josh, this is an excellent subject, has

there been any research on how many farm workers or farmers are killed each

year due to lightening. We need safety measures.

Dear Josh,

One of the best places to start for ag. safety & health is the National Ag.

Safety Database:

http://www.cdc.gov/nasd/index.html

The unqualified search turned up 80 hits; the following came from the first page:

http://www.cdc.gov/nasd/docs/d000001-d000100/d000034/d000034.html

For this particular question, the U. of Fl. Agri-Gator is also appropriate, because

Florida is the lightning capital of the US:

http://agrigator.ifas.ufl.edu/

and:

Josh,

Here is a resource in Florida - in English. Not sure if this will help or not.

Everyone,

I am looking for a handout, brochure, etc. that can be given to farmworkers that educates them about lightning safety. This could include fact sheets about the dangers of lightning, steps to take to prevent being struck by lightning when storms come, etc. I hope that helps.

Josh,

Could you explain a little more? Is someone looking for detailed materials, tips for working during storms, etc.?? Thanks, Tori

Josh,

You might check with the folks in Florida. I have a feeling if

any place has something, they might. Florida holds the record by far for

lightning strikes to people.
