Guest guest
Judi: Yes, I have numbness and tingling in my hands and fingers, mostly fingertips, on and off. It seems to happen if I hold something for a while, like when on the phone for about 10 minutes, but sometimes it is spontaneous. I talked to my doctor about it and she says it might be caused by the inflammation in my elbows and wrists pressing on nerves running down into my hands and fingers, like a carpal tunnel thing, or it could also be connected with Raynaud's. I have been having symptoms of Raynaud's for years, even before the RA diagnosis, with cold, but this tingling is something new in the past month or so. Any numbness or tingling you are experiencing should be brought up to your doctor - there are a lot of things which might be causing yours and you should have it checked out to make sure it is nothing serious. I will mention it to the doctor next week when I go. But it makes sense, as there is a lot of inflammation in my hips & knees. Guest guest
Dear Kathe and Judi, I too have numbness and tingling in the fingers. I first began to take Elavil because I didn't sleep at night because I kept waking up with my hands totally numb. When I hold something for a period of time, like a phone, the same thing happens. Mine is caused by nerve compression in the neck due to vertebrae pressing on the nerves. I would definitely tell my dr. Sometimes physical therapy can help. Guest guest
Hi Judy: Spent most of my life in Rancho Palos Verdes and went to the beach in Redondo frequently - now I live down in a little place near Lake Elsinore in the low desert. Sure miss the ocean breezes! Kathe in CA __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Sorry that you had such a terrible week, Judi. I hope your husband and daughter will be OK. There are many possibilities to consider in an attempt to explain the tingling and numbness in your thighs and calves. You should definitely mention this to your doctor and describe what is going on in as much detail as possible. One possibility is peripheral neuropathy which is common in rheumatoid arthritis: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000593.htm http://www.neuropathy-trust.org/peripheral_neuropathy/neuro2.html Another possible cause could be lumbar spinal stenosis: " Once the leg pain begins, it is most commonly bilateral, involving the buttocks and thighs and spreading distally toward the feet, typically with the onset and progression of leg exercise. In some patients, the pain, paresthesias and/or weakness are limited to the lower legs and feet, remaining present until movement ceases. The lower extremity symptoms are almost always described as burning, cramping, numbness, tingling or dull fatigue in the thighs and legs. Disease onset is usually insidious; early symptoms may be mild and progress to become extremely disabling. Symptom severity does not always correlate with the degree of lumbar canal narrowing. " Source: " Lumbar Spine Stenosis: A Common Cause of Back and Leg Pain " : http://www.aafp.org/afp/980415ap/alvarez.html Source: " " Examination Findings and Self-Reported Walking Capacity in Patients With Lumbar Spinal Stenosis " : http://www.ptjournal.org/PTJournal/July2001/v81n7p1296.cfm Fibromyalgia can also cause numbness and tingling. I hope you can figure it out and get some relief soon. [ ] that tingling feeling > I was wondering if anyone else with RA has experienced tingling & > numbness (mine is in my thighs and calves.)
