Guest guest
Hello Carole I hope your sister-in-law has a successful knee operation. I have not had a knee op. but a lady near me is in her 70's and has just a knee replacement and she is doing really well. I was a bit surprised that sister-in-law is having both knees operated on at the same time. In my part of the country they will only do one at a time, but I expect it is down to individual surgeons, they all have different ideas. Anyway hope everything goes O.K. I am sure it will. All the best Joan U.K.
Guest guest
Carole, Total knee replacements are the most successful surgical procedure for end-stage arthritis. The patient should have after a 6 to 8 week recovery relief of pain, a functional range-of motion, and return of quality of life activities. Continued improvement occurs for at least one year after surgery. Pain control immediately after surgery is very important for a good recovery. The best results come from a pain management program that use a variety of different kinds of medicines including regional anesthesia to reduce the side-effects of narcotics. If the anesthesiologist offers her a femoral nerve block prior to surgery he should accept it. The first day after surgery is the worst and each after gets better. Wish her good luck and a good recovery. Harry S. It seems to me that most folks get tremendous relief from that surgery from the stories I've read here. She is otherwise healthy except for the knees she said. Can I have some feedback on recovery time, success stories, etc to send to her. Her hubby, Al's big brother, passed away a bit over a year ago and she's by herself and is rather frightened and I tried to reassure her by telling her that it seemed to me that most people were very happy with the surgery. She still has her husband's scooter so that's going to be helpful around the house and walking her dog. But she's being told she'll be out of commission for 6 to 8 weeks and it seems to me that people did better much sooner than that. I'd love to be able to send her some " happy " stories.
