Guest guest
I had a reaction to some " sterling sliver " jewelry I bought in Mexico while I was living there (as a student). I went to the Seguro Social Hospital there, because my ear lobes were so swollen, the jewelry was enclosed in the ear lobe. They had all these medical residents looking at me like I was some strange novelty: an American with an earring inside each ear lobe. Finally they had to cut open the ear lobes to remove it, and put me on strong antibiotics. They told me you need to be careful because there is nickel and other additive metals in jewelry labeled sterling silver that is sold in Mexico. Needless to say, I've never gotten pierced earrings after that experience! Obviously, if it's a necklace or a bracelet you're having a reaction to, it' s a different level of caution. But if you have earrings of the same metal, please be careful! Love and hugs, Carol [ ] Turning Green You can develop an allergy to metals at any time in life. I have a friend who's son as a baby would get rashes right under his clothes snappers. I developed an allergy to nickel (5 years ago)and can only wear gold or sterling silver. I do not think it is caused by the remicade.By the way most jewelry has nickel in it. There are some earring makers who say that their product is nickel free.Nickel is the most common metal allergy. Be thankful it did not start to swell and itch. The turning green is usually the first step. The clear nail polish will work for the back of a watch or maybe a ring. It does wear off fairly soon however. I gave all my rings earrings and chains to the 11 year old girl next door. We had a tea party and then I let her select anything she wanted out of a box of stuff I knew that I could never wear again.I got her a pretty jewelry box to put all her treasures in. Some were age appropriate for her right away but some she has put up to wear when she get's older at the gentle prodding from her mother and I. We had a very fun afternoon doing this!=) Louise in Alabama
