Thank you for allowing us to join this group. Let me introduce

myself and family. I'm Rick a 52 year old OSP Engineer for a utility

company. Wife Lois 42, 1 of 10 children raised on a dairy farm until

mom & dad retired and sold out. We have 5 children, Boy 24 married 1

child and just finished his military duty in Iraq 3 tours, Boy 21

single going to college will graduate this spring 2009, Boy 16

attending JVS for Building Trades, Girls 13 twins and my future new

Milk Maids.

We recently realized our dream of buying a small 5 acre place away

from the city. We have 2 huge barns and an 1880 farm house. The

barns were left go without maintenance but we have so far repaired

the roof and replaced beams. We expect to be ready to place animals

2-3 beefs calves and 1-2 dairy in the spring. We are currently

building our fencing system. We have been looking for a Jersey for

our Family Cow.

My wife and her family drank raw milk everyday and they are the

healthiest bunch of people I have ever witnessed. Lois' parents are

almost 90 years old and can still keep up with me working anytime,

its frightening. I want our children and myself to have that same

benefit. Besides all that we are really into canning, freezing and

growing all of the food we can ourselves. We have an awesome root

cellar to store and a basement packed with self canned veggies,

fruit, and meat. We plan to make our own butter, cheese, yogurt, and

ICE CREAM.

Hope I didn't bore you all!

There are many of us here who like to live the boring simple life. We have 4 dairy cows, raise the bull calves for

meat, couple of pigs, are easy to raise for meat- quick return. To many chickens, and a huge herd of

dairy goats. I did freeze many veggies and tomatoes this fall. Wish I would of done more we have ate almost all already.

Anyhow welcome to the group.

I have a NYS permit to sell raw milk...
