Guest guest
is soon to be 20 years old, I have been putting her on the potty and putting her potty, but she is not potty training ready and that is the problem. Her teachers and I have tried, but the truth is she is just not ready. She is usually dry in the morning, unless she drank a very large quantity of liquid the evening prior. She keeps getting closer to potty training, we have tried VCR tapes, books, schedules and nothing works, because she is not potty training ready. She even has behavior change when she has a wet or poop dipper, so I know she knows that there is a difference, and one time it was not that way. I look at that as real plus for Jen, because at least she can tell me at times in a non-verbal manor, after she a wet or pooped dapper, and then I can help she sooner. I wish with all my heart, she would potty train, but glad that she has some awareness of her situation of lack of potty training. It seems as her verbal skills improve, so does her awareness of potty training and her self-helping skills. Years ago I remember but I do not know from where it came, someone told me that for a child to be potty training ready if there is such a thing, the child must has a certain amount of verbal skills. Jen has been taking Namenda for a few months now and I can see a increase in verbal skills and self-help skills, so my hope is that she just might become potty training ready too! She can repeat some new words on command, she has difficultly forming the sound with her mouth, so some of the words are difficult to understand, but she tries ready hard. I am so proud of her. She can say a good repeat of the word " Frog " . Take care, Bev Weakley Mom of Jen
Guest guest
Bev it is of also a muscle development in teh spincster muscle ? not sure if spelled that right but if she has low tone or is of with movement disorder issues she may not have awareness that has nothing to do with IQ or cognitive things but has to do with awareness or perception of feeling the need to go and controlling the muscles that let go or whithold going. sondra
Guest guest
I know Jen is very bright, and at times lately, like today she had a window where she seemed to be more intact with potty training. She went to the potty and pooped. I know it does not have to do with IQ. I just wish to make life better for my daughter and when she was on the potty pooping today she was very proud of herself. I really think the Namenda is somehow helping her, because there seems to be more windows where she can communicate, do things and she seems happier. Guest guest
That is wonderful!!! Have you tried rewarding her too? I know with Kay a reward could be as simple as a great big bear hug. She loved the hardness of the hug, still does. Maybe a sticker wall or something to show her good work. > I know Jen is very bright, and at times lately, like today she had a > window where she seemed to be more intact with potty training. Guest guest
We were praising her and she loves to hear us (Kim, Nanny Pat and myself) tell her how proud we are her. I tried sticker years ago and she just up them on construction she is carrying. I don't think really cares about stickers or rewards as others do. Jen like things that cylindrical items, years ago when she was little she was fascinated with balance of objects and she would balance multiple objects on top of each other. She seems now to be fascinated with the attachment of objects together and there is always a cylindrical object at the beginning of the construction. When given a sticker she become very intent on the attachment to one of her constructions. She then in her own world of this construction, she balances and observes the movement as she adjusts the holding of the object. Lately she has been working on the idea of attachment by wrapping. I avoid buying tape and sticky items, because the other year her sister Kim brushed by one of Jen's constructions made of tape and it attached to her book bag. She went to school wearing the construction and was very upset when she discovered the construction at school. I worn a few Jen's constructions by accident to work and other places too! I found the them attached to our Collie Dog also, but he he seemed to care less. Bev

Guest guest
My daughter loves tape too. I wonder if you put some - what are they called, I built with them and so did my kids, they are by playskool, wooden all different shapes but I remember loving the cylinder type blocks, any way get those in the bathroom with a tv tray. Maybe she would sit there and build and go to the bathroom???? > Bev this is of good to hear what a great success that is for her that > day.
