Guest guest
They dont eat much zinc at all but the ones who do I figure they need it - I get it from the local mill just like the copper - if your local feed store does its own mixes they will have zinc as well. The zinc is only a big deal if you have lots of iron in your water. It binds the copper as well as the zinc. Good idea about the vitE in the morning. I have some DE that I have been meaning to put out but just havent gotten it up to the barn yet. Another one to put out is redmonds conditioner - the goats dont eat it much but the sheep do for some reason. Guest guest
Aliza, Thanks for the info. I don't have sheep now and from time to time I do want them but one of the concerns I keep hearing about copper lose is that the sheep will O.D. on it. Obviously not a concern for you at all. Is it for the same reason we are comfortable putting it out free choice for the goats? thanks again for your input. Guest guest
I really try not to have loose copper out with the sheep. Its not too big of a worry to me because it isnt in a salt base so they wont eat it for that. I know some icelandic breeders in copper deficient areas are starting to put copper out - not a recommendation to start feeding sheep copper - because the icelandics seem to require more copper then other breeds. If you are running sheep and goats together I would go with the bolus method myself on the goats and make sure they all have loose kelp. Aliza www.eftashland.com Aliza,Thanks for the info.
