I buy raw goat and sheep milk kefir from out of state. I buy their yogurt too,

but I don't know how hot they heat it so I'm not sure it qualifies as " raw. " I'm

lactose-intolerant, but raw milk doesn't bother me like pasteurized does. I

usually get the kefir because it lasts longer than raw milk and currently I'm

not drinking it fast enough to finish it before it sours. Kefir and yogurt taste

better to me than sour milk.

I'm especially interested in finding a source of raw Guernsey milk, kefir, or

cheese. I like cow's milk, but I'm trying to stick to " A2 " types of milk because

I have had problems with " leaky gut. " According to what I've read, 90 to 95% of

Guernsey cows produce A2 milk. I've read the book " Devil in the Milk " and found

the evidence convincing. It certainly explains why some people can have goat

milk but not cow's milk.

According to the realmilk.com website, in NC, " The sale or dispensing of raw

milk for human consumption is illegal. This ban extends to cow share agreements

or to any other contractual arrangement or exchange. "

NC farmers around where I live don't even want to sell raw milk as " pet milk. "

So they lose the money they could be making selling it, and people who want to

buy it have to get it from out of state.

I first heard about raw milk from my Aunt, who thinks it is great. It took about

a year to find a source. I've been drinking raw milk and kefir for about 2 years

now, except for a period of a little over a month when I tried a GAPS-type diet

that did not include dairy (on the advice of my doctor). I've always loved milk

and drank tons of pasteurized milk when I was a kid. I also had really terrible

hay fever for much of the year. It would have been interesting to find out

whether having raw milk instead of pasteurized would have fixed the hay fever.
