We have to put ours up at pretty much the last minute as the anticipation for our Amy gets to much. Then she starts thinking that we have been forgotten by Santa as she checks under the tree every day. We can put up other decorations in the home but definately not the tree. Guest guest
Sorry. How about getting a small tree? When my mother was dying she really wanted a tree but we couldn't fit a tree in her room, I was able to find a small pine tree in a pot that was fully decorated for xmas. I got it online from a national florist chain. She loved it. Guest guest
Funny that you should mention that. In my bachelor days when I was too busy going out to be bothered with all that, I used to have a small fake tree that was pre decorated that I kept in a box in the attic. On Christmas Eve, I would pull it out of the box and set it on the table, plug it in and there it was - instant Christmas tree! I was told that that was too tacky, but I may have to resort to doing something like that again. Unknown to us my daughter was terrified of Santa Claus and my son called it the “Santa Hoax” (prior email thread) My son doesn’t even want any presents this year – just money so he can buy another car. (not that there is anything wrong with the car he has) I can’t help thinking that I must have done something terribly wrong somewhere along the line. If only I could figure out what it was – I’d go back and fix it….. Guest guest
You're doing better than my mom with trees. She's 58 yrs old, I cannot recall the last time she had a Christmas tree...probably in 1988, the last Christmas I was at home and probably only then because I went & got it & decorated it. Craig has decided he wants a real tree this year for our family tree...we usually do 3 large ones but one of the artificial ones is getting too puny. But with this cold weather I don't know if we'll ever get warm enough to go walk my MIL's property to cut a tree. Gee, it's so cold in TN it was in the teens last night. I don't know how those of you north of us stand frigid winters!!!!!! This is weather we usually don't have except in Jan-Feb. We finally broke down & bought a kerosene heater, our HVAC thermometer is up 12 degrees so far, from 60 to 72. I think we really need a new HVAC but like everything else in life, it will have to wait 'til I'm out of college. Debi
Guest guest
I doubt you did anything wrong. Kids are kids. You love them and they you. And some of ours just don't like the anything out of the norm. Now, say you had a tree up everyday of every year, and then it was gone, I am sure it would cause distress. So this might be the opposite. Just guessing. I know a lot of things put Kay out of whack, just not Xmas. But crowds, people, loud noises, soft touches....and on and on. Guest guest
Many years ago when my kids were little, an elderly neighbor of mine gave us all her Christmas stuff. She said she was too old to put it up and now that her kids were grown and gone and her husband had passed away it just wasn't worth the trouble, plus she wasn't physically able. She and her husband used to be teachers. When I opened the boxes I found all these ornaments that had been made by their children and their previous students. Many were hand-made and many were engraved. I looked at them all and realized they must have meant a lot to her. So I purchased a plain artificial wreath and wired all the ornaments to it. My kids helped by selecting where each would go. Then I packed the wreath in an easy to store box and gave it to her. She loved it. She was so touched. She could put up that one wreath and have many of her Christmas memories right there. I think this is a great idea for folks who have a hard time decorating (or for folks who have cats who love to climb trees!) -- Cassie Debi wrote: > You're doing better than my mom with trees. Guest guest
we to usually put of our tree up as part of out thanksgiving day dinner and family time. We are of giving my huge tree to my grand baby for her to have at her house this year and we are of buying a new smaller sort of tree. We have a cat who likes of to steal all of the ornaments she can so we have to make sure they do not break easily. we are of having of a big feast that day but not having any family people coming to our home. I to just want of quiet family time alone. we usually prepare for several days favorite desserts and things and the night before side sorts of things and then morning of we begin of the main foods. the church of us always sponsers of our family and gives of me a huge food basket things full of groceries and then several tickets to the churches huge christmas play which brings in thousands of people from all over and even out of state travelers come because of the quality of the play and the message for the season. one of the things I to like is that in one part the kings do ride into the sancuary place on real camels who are of huge and then they have of rams and goats and ponies and horses things too. there is of much color and dancing and music and diologes. it to me is of my most cherished christmas gift. I tolook for ward to going every year just to see of it. there is of some scenes that are of loud and thunder effects happen and so cant take of my grand baby yet for fear the sounds might be of too real and cause her fears of it. I to like of the celbrating things around christmas but the actual day of is of not as a favored part. after the gifts are of done i to just be of need alone time and such to de-escalate from the last 4 weeks of preparing and celebrating of it in my own way. this year me and my grand baby will watch much of the santa shows and such together and have of treats and snuggle to my office room watching them. I to miss of her greatly right now. sondra >
