Guest guest
Okay guys, I pulled out my AMGEN " patient information " packet on this one because I can't believe anyone is shooting up Kineret cold. Cold Kineret HURTS! Here's what the AMGEN instructions say: " Let the Kineret solution warm to room temperature for 60 to 90 minutes prior to injection. " By tucking it behind by ear (or in my bra... maybe the guys could order a man-ziere?) I can speed that up to 10 minutes or so. I usually use it when it's just slightly cooler than room temp (maybe 60 degrees?). Do you all ice before you inject? Seems like a hassle, but it's so worth it. 10-15 minutes with a small cooler pack and I don't even feel the needle going in. 45 degree angle is much kinder than a 90. The wonderful nurse who showed me how to inject gave me the best advice-- " a little at a time. " I push the syringe a bit until I feel a little sting, then stop, wait a few seconds, push again, stop at sting, etc. I can usually empty the syringe in about six pushes--about 1-2 minutes. Sounds perhaps a bit more complicated than sitting on the toilet or just jabbing yourself in the leg, but the whole icing and injecting process takes about 15 minutes and doesn't burn, sting, itch, or leave a mark. If I'm shooting into my stomach, I can actually do this on my commute to work (ice pack in underwear, kineret warming on dashboard, pull over at the toll plaza for the injection, then back on the road). Diane, my site reactions from kineret took a while to go away... I think maybe 6 or 8 weeks? They were nasty--big, hard, red, itchy knots. in Maine > > Diane..42, > > My God, where did they teach you to make the injection is my first question? Did they toss a paper at you and left you on your own? > Ackward for me to spell out, but just making sure we're on the same track ok... and what works for me is me yea,, > Sit on the toilet, a left hand to right leg upper side thigh area near the seat but not on it, grab pinch of skin making about a two inch pile, alcohol wipe, hit with shot. I found that I can pull the rubber protector off by holding it with my teeth and still hold the pinch of skin and inject using my right hand.next day left leg. > I was about three weeks before the redness would pass. I think we are all at some sort of different levels of tolarence to shots. you might be having a Stills reaction.. if so, as time marches, the keneret will take hold and your body will not react to the shot so harshly..I had some itching at first yes like the size of a pancake. > Make sence? at least thats my happening.. > my body goes nuts to the shot in the side of torso. > Keneret from the frig to injection can be another problem, injecting at 38 degrees is really hurtfull, hold it in your hand for a minute. > Now why on the toilet? cause if you hurt yourself you can piss without getting it all over. As a male I can really make a mess of the floor.... LOL > Alan > > =ALAN= > > > Alan, > Your red marks go away from the Kineret shot? > > Mine aren't and I have been doing this for awhile....I have these reddish/bluish welts that hurt!! > > I tried just injecting in one thigh until that was ''filled with welts'' and then switching to the other...that seems to help a little. > > Did you get the itching from Kineret too? > > Diane..42 > >
