Guest guest
>you don't have to > give a " naff " handshake – so Al you can " shake like a man! " LOL! Gee thanks Heidi! LOL! Fortunately, only the little finger on my right hand is deformed. My handshake is still intact. And " manly " I might add... Guest guest
I like this suggestion, Heidi. In fact, a few years ago I had one physician who had arthritis himself who was using that type of handshake. At first, I wondered what the heck he was doing - ah, the early naive days. Here are some handshaking tips from the University of Missouri at Columbia: http://www.muhealth.org/~arthritis/nwrac/spring01/handshake.html " Naff " is another new word for me. I'm always happy to learn something from you or someone here. Such a colorful group! Everyone – alternative to Dr. Shiel's Patented Handshake for Arthritis > Hi Everyone, > This made me remember something. The professor I met in South Africa when I > was first diagnosed showed me a great “Arthritis handshake”, its different > to Dr Shiel’s – I’ll try explain. You shake by holding your hand with index > finger and baby finger touching (under your two middle fingers), looks a bit > strange (like a V) but people don’t seem to notice and you don’t have to > give a “naff” handshake – so Al you can “shake like a man!” LOL! It > protects the joints from being crushed. He explained to my husband how it > feels for us when someone squeezes our hands like this – he took four > pencils and placed them between his fingers, then he squeezed the top and > bottom fingers together as in a handshake – I think he got the picture quiet > vividly LOL! ! It’s a great way to show friends and family how it feels > for us, try it (but tell them to squeeze themselves or you may lose a > friend! LOL!) > Hugs, > Heidi
