Guest guest
Please forgive my absence but I have been in the hospital. I hope someone can help me with this problem. Besides having severe RA, (I am on methotrexate to name a few meds.)I was hospitalized 2 weeks ago with this weird reaction. I took phenergan for nausea and for 24 hrs after, I had to keep walking and moving to ease a terrible feeling...a feeling of I must keep moving to ease this very uncomfortable feeling. It was so bad, 4 medications offered by the physician at home did not work and I ended up in critical care. IV ativan did not even ease the symptoms and the movements eventually I became totally out of it, not even knowing my daughter. It all wore off in about three days when I was released. Basically nothing worked to stop it. I should mention that on a few other occasions with nausea meds or cold meds (although I am 52 and took them all of my life)I experienced the same " need to move " but it only lasted until the medication was out of my system, a few hours. But it was horrible while it was going on.. Now 2 weeks later, IT IS BACK, having taken no phenrgan and I am so very scared..Truly cannot live with this endless walking, particularly with RA. I sit here in tears afraid of what is going on....and the doctors do not have a clue Can anyone offer any help? PS.Of note: my significant other of 10 yrs has left for greener pastures in July, so I am alone and more frightened than usual. Thank you all for listening Joanne

Guest guest
Joanne, this is terrible news. What was the source of the nausea for which the Phenergan was prescribed? How long were you taking it and how much? Would you describe your " need to move " as restlessness or something else? What, besides MTX are you taking (if you don't wish to say, don't feel compelled to)? Have you asked your pharmacist about this? Your rheumatologist? Can you see someone else? I'm very sorry to hear about your man, too. This is a lot to bear. [ ] Re:Please read ! > Please forgive my absence but I have been in the hospital. Guest guest
Joanne, Can you describe the feelings? Was it just your legs that felt they needed to move? What did your doctor say about it? Do you know what caused the nausea? How long have you been on mtx? I¹m sorry you feel alone and frightened. a > Please forgive my absence but I have been in the hospital. Guest guest
Dear Joanne...please relate to your doctors how torturous this is! I've only had one similar in symptom experienced, when I was prescribed too large a dose of Tylox. I ended up in ER. Please call for help. I'm sorry about your personal situation...I hope there is someone who can be with you and take you to a physician. Love & Prayers.... Guest guest
(((((((((((Joanne))))))))))))) I'm sorry you're going through this. I had the same thing maybe 10 years ago, but with Compazine (which I'm told is related to phenergen). It was extremely frightening. I was told it was extrapyramidal syndrome, which is a movement disorder. I would agree with in that if you continue to feel uncomfortable, I would head to the ER. It's better to be safe than sorry, even if they weren't able to do much to cure it. I'm sorry to hear about your breakup, too. That's just added stress in a crisis. Love and hugs, Carol [ ] Re:Please read ! Please forgive my absence but I have been in the hospital. I hope someone can help me with this problem. Guest guest
Deficiency in iron or vitamins such as folic acid or B12 is associated with Restless Legs Syndrome. Anemia is very common in RA. Methotrexate can cause a folic acid depletion. http://webmd.lycos.com/content/dmk/dmk_article_5461922
Guest guest
Hi Joanne, Although I have nothing to offer is regard to advice, know that I am thinking of you and praying that this gets resolved soon. Guest guest
hI Joanne, I may not be of much help but I can tell you of my experiences. Sometimes I have gotten a felling that I can only describe as uneasy and I mean extremly uneasy, to the point of having to get out of my chair and do something physical like dishes or laundry or sweeping the floor. I felt like I was going to have a heart attack or something. The only thing that really works for me is deep and sincere prayer. I put my concerns in God's hands and then I don't worry and usually fall asleep. I wonder if this isn't a form of depression. I noticed mine after my mom passed away. I didn't have her to talk to everyday anymore. I also know you must be hurting over your personal situation but I believe everything happens for a reason. Hope I didn't offend you but it works for me. Good luck and I hope you find the answers you are looking for. Judy in Indy
Guest guest
Joanne, I am sorry that my response is so late in coming, but I like you, have been in the hospital. I have not had the same symptom response to the medication that you took. My medications that gave me trouble were compazine and reglan. Out of the blue after taking them for years, I received these medications orally and at times IM or IV and they caused my eye balls to roll to the top of my head and I was unable to focus on anything or even walk. They gave me mega doses of benadryl in hopes of reversing this problem. After the benedryl and several hours, the side effects did reverse themselves and as long as I do not take these medications, I have no problems. I don't know if this helps or not, but we are sure glad to see you back here with us. YOU WERE MISSED!
