Guest guest
Hello Everyone, I've been a kombucha drinker for two years. However, in the last seven months, I've been on a strict diet to reduce my weight. (50 down and 20 to go!) I've been slowly adding foods back. I haven't had sugars for the past seven months. I've had a couple ounces of store bought KT as I had to start growing my own SCOBY as I've not found a person to share one in Alaska. The next day I experienced swelling--not puffy, mind you, but I did have to remove my wedding ring as the finger was getting quite sore. My doctor had me do detoxes already as part of my weight loss plan. Since I now know that my body reacts to sugars and certain carbs, I am wondering if KT is one thing that has to go. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Donna in Alaska
Guest guest
Hi, Donna. Congrats on your weight loss! Great job! Re. the sugars/carbs & kombucha, I am not a dietitian, physician, etc., but have been reading a lot about how our bodies burn carbs/fat, as I have been going down a similar path. (70+ lbs. lost, 30 to go.) I'm sure I don't have to tell you that each of us has different needs, reactions, etc. It may well be that you are sensitive now, but won't be in the future. (or might always be, who knows?) If you are unsure whether the swelling was specifically due to kombucha, that says to me that you suspect a number of variables might be at play. In that case, I would encourage you to follow a strict elimination diet for a month, and when you bring back foods into your diet that might cause reactions, let kombucha be one of those items, then judge from your reaction. Here's a blog of one woman's experience in doing a Paleo-centric elimination diet. (I have had great results w/ Paleo, especially in adding a lot more Omega 3s & healthy fats to my diet.) Elimination diet, Paleo style http://www.theprimalist.com/elimination-diet-paleo-style/ Clearly you don't have to do Paleo; Google for elim diets if you need guidelines... Good luck with your weight-loss journey! Vicki in Orlando > > Hello Everyone, > I've been a kombucha drinker for two years.
