Hello all. My name is Afrank and I remarried and relocated from

Alabama to Nebraska three years ago this December. My husband, Sam,

is from here in Cedar Rapids. He returned home to help care for his

Dad and I came with him. Unfortunately, he passed away shortly after

we got back. We bought the old homeplace and we are making it the way

it used to be. They owned a herd of about 49 cows, and this is where

their milk, butter and cheese came from. This is not new to either of

us. We are both in our 60s and things are slower, but we are bent on

doing this the way we choose to. In Alabama, I had a jersey cow that

I milked and 25 Nubian goats. I just love the milk and what you can

do with it. I made cheese and sold most of it. I had to just say I

was out temporarily to eat it!! It was the same way with the butter,

the milk and the buttermilk I made. The goats gave me lots of milk

and more cheese. I cannot imagine it being any other way, as I do not

like store bought milk. At present, I have no other choice. It is not

legal to sell raw milk here in Nebraska. We have goats now, and the

milk will come with kidding in the spring. We are looking for a good

milk cow. That will come. The barn needs to be renovated here. There

is a lot of work to do. A new adventure late in life, and the best

one by far.

I am very glad to be a part of this group and I hope to learn from

all of you. You are never too old to learn new things. You must keep

an open mind and listen.
