Hi Miranda,

I, too, was terrified of the first cast removal! But we found it went a lot

better than we'd expected. It took only a few seconds. My husband held Todd in

a standing hug with T's feet on the table. I got close to his face, held his

hands, and spoke gentle encouragements to him over my hubby's shoulder. The

technician zipped the cast saw up the back of the cast very quickly, then pried

the cast off gently, and it was all over. A few chocolate chips, and Todd was

all smiles again. The second one was even better. Todd kind of knew what to

expect, and even though he was still upset while the saw was cutting the cast,

he stopped crying as soon as the saw was done, and said, " All done? Cast off? "

We'll see how the third one goes next week! I hope you'll also find it's not as

bad as you think. If they can cut it on the back instead of the front, that is

less intimidating. As long as it's done as quickly as possible, I think that's

the main thing.

(So a strong person wielding the saw is a good thing!)

Good luck!!

Anyone going to be in SLC April 11 thru 16?

We are going to be in SLC for my son Braden's second cast from April 11

to the 16th. I was just wondering if anyone else will be there during

this time. It would be great to get together. We will be arriving in

the afternoon on Friday, April 11 to have his cast removed. He is

scheduled for an MRI on Saturday after which we will be staying back at

Shriners that night. Then we will be released on Sunday to have a

little bit of " free " time without the cast. We will return on Tuesday

morning for his casting. We were thinking of going to the zoo on

Sunday or Monday as a good distraction. We are also going to stay in a

hotel for those couple nights so that he can get a good bath and swim

in the pool.

Because he is currently in his first cast, we have not yet experienced

getting it cut off. I am very scared about this. Is it horrible? He

is only 20 months old so I imagine that it will be pretty scary for him

(not to mention me!) Any suggestions for making this easier?

Thanks - Miranda
