Guest guest
not have any memory of a fear of showers as a young child but as older and or teen was to experience a shower and it hurt of my body to have of the pwoerful feel of water pounding at me, but not know of why or what happened but now take of showers okay and like of them, but still cannot stand of the rain to hit of my skin at all as this causes of me sensory overlaod and even now have of to have a very high motivator in place for me to go out into the rain or sometimes can talk self into it for a short time but usually get of strong negative moods later for it. the only time i to take a bath now is if too cold and want of the body of me to warm up or plan of to shave as cant shave standing up as not coordinated to take one foot up as again lose cordinations of self and tumble over. about the bike, neverhad of a trike, did be of to have of a bike with trainer like wheels as a kid but was not good at coordinating of self to do that well. but as adult did learn of to ride a bike and then forgot of how and for some reason could not balance of self and or get of the bike to stay up right but then did of get a bike things that had of a trailer things that you hooked to it, it was of like a stroller things and so this helped of balance it out like traniner wheels but again one summer with a friend found self doing the bike by self and seemed able to do it and was happy in that but then it was of several years since then to even be on a bike and so had of to relearn of it, each time I to relearn of it , I to have of no sense of how to keep the bike up as when I to try to peddle the bike slowly just falls over and so cant know of how to keep it up right and such but then with a full summer practice can ride of it but the next year my brain has of to relearn of it. Not sure why my brain does not retain of the memory or skill of bike riding so occasional will sahre here I to just learned to ride of a bike and will feel happy to only lose it again. with swimming never had of a lesson , I to just jumped in 12 foot of water and did of a sloppy sort of doggie paddle and so learned to swim with no training or learning of this. my learning of things is of so very uneven some things that seems complex can be of easy for me and things that others find easy is of hard. and things others have shared to me once you learn a certain things you do not lose it but for me not find that to be of true. same goes with roller skating cant in line or ice skate but with much practice can balance self to roller skate. but it isof rare for me to do that now because fear of falling is of strong in me more so now than for years but had of this same sense of falling as a child. sondra
Guest guest
I to also will share at time my memory is of good and sometimes not and or some times a memory will come to me of only one age areas and the next time it will be of a same issues but older age group so wanted of to clarify if things do not always seem consistent with my response because one in the not too past accused of me of the lying and so it might appear of that but it isof because of what age my memroy is of reflecting from. I to also found I to think it was here or Debi here teached me the fibromyalgia can interfer with memory and while this is of not a comfort it is of a better comfort than being of parkinsons and alzheimers such as the birth mother of me has. her memory is of severely impacted on some days and much clear on other days. I to plan as i to shared will be of to try of to take of some video things of the birth family of me soon because will go to the birth fathers home for Christmas eve this year. the odd is that while is of married to the step mom he is of also to invited of the birth mother of me to hims home each year for christmas too. so it will be of hard and yet will be of good to get of videos of her and hims and the sister and brother of me and the two nephews who I to know are of spectrum. the one will be of 4- or 5 and still says little to no words and cries much and has of what is of termed flat affect. it will be of interesting to see the gains or non gains he has maked because the nephew is of in complete denial of him being of autism but he is of much like of self at that age of being of a non talker and having very little awareness and much anxiety. that was of last year so interested to see of the changes, Hims brother is of much an aspergers sort of profile. sondra
Guest guest
Sondra, I experience the same phenomena of rememberence....where at age 4 things were one way and at age 30 things were different; however, where the time as present is of stipulation to the current interpretation of both or either....having autism is perspecitve and we can not choose interpretations... http://speakup.today.com Subject: Re: Questions for Sondra To: Autism_in_Girls Date: Monday, December 15, 2008, 10:30 PM I to also will share at time my memory is of good and sometimes not and or some times a memory will come to me of only one age areas and the next time it will be of a same issues but older age group so wanted of to clarify if things do not always seem consistent with my response because one in the not too past accused of me of the lying and so it might appear of that but it isof because of what age my memroy is of reflecting from. Guest guest
I think the shower is a fear thing. When she was about 18 months old I got a flat tire during the summer and it was nearly 100 degrees out. I drove the car slowly to a small service station around the corner from where I'd gotten the flat, and the mechanic there repaired the tire. The problem was the shop was not air conditioned and Peri and I were literally baking out in the sun. I kept trying to cool her with a cool cloth and gave her juices. When we finally got back home, I just took off both our clothes and hoped into a cool shower. She was so frightened because I had never done this before and ever since then she has been fearful of showers. She plays in the sprinkler in the summer, and gets in her blow up pool, but will NOT get in the shower. But...she does like to put her hand under the running shower water when I'm about to get in. She's a quirky kid. Gotta love her. Karmen Re: Questions for Sondra I was wondering if the shower might hurt her. Guest guest
Thanks Sonja, I've been thinking about taking the training wheels off. I was thinking to get one of those training poles that attaches to the bike so I would have control of it while she is learning. If Peri falls and gets a scrape she NEVER get back on this year. Falling and getting hurt is a big fear issue for her. Guest guest
yes if something triggers a fear to me it may never be of to be of erased for me until I to understand its logic or it makes of sense to me in away to take away the fear. so like of yoy little girl that is of the memory she has of a shower that she was much so already maybe in a sensory overload and the cold shower caused a much negative response and to me if was of very hot and took of cold shower the shock of the very different extremes of temperature would have caused of me pains to the point of panic and not ever to like of that again. so she may not ever like of it until she has of some control over it or it makes of sense to her. you can both try of to get into you swim suits and see if she will go in to the shower with you but do not force of it but put some motivating play ideas there for her to match sort of what she does outside in the sun and water play. even if it is of only she will allow of her arm in and or to join at that level of getting into the shower not force of it but just explain of how it calmly this is of like the sprinkler outside in the summer but the water comes down instead of up. show her how you can put you body in and move it back when it is of too much, show her how you hold of you hands into the water and then you legs and and such and share how it is warm and is or fun for you. use of simple words that she might already have of within her as a receptive understand of the concepts. get of a new shower head that can make of the water flow in different flow levels and try to find the one that seems less threatening and or powerful, also make of sure to have of a mat that causes the water to not pound to the bottom in a loud painful way if she is of sound sensitive. Aim of the shower complete to the front and not out so she can have of much room in the shower out of the reach of the water pouring down and can reach in at her own pace and safe but also important do not make of the shower at that poing as a bath/shower time for cleaning or shampooing but just for play and experiences because if you try of to bathe of her she may feel overloaded by too much experiences at one. sondra
