I think pain management is important

Hi all,

I have to say here that I am not going to rant about people that shouldn't

get drugs but rather the importance of the explaining why we should have

them to our doctors. This is just my opinion but when I am in so much pain I

cannot move then I tense up and the pain is worse causing my immobility to

be worse. That is not a good thing for someone with arthritis over an

extended period of time. On the other side of that coin is the fact that if

I am hurting and I take pain medications and continue to overdo more than my

joints will allow because of pain and or inflammation I am hurting myself

just as badly.

My RD has always believed in pain management and that means what it states.

One has to learn to difference between too much or too little, just as with

activity when our joints are affected and we are sick. So mine gives me an

amount for so many a day as needed and then if I have a period of worsening

pain he adjusts my medication.

If I had a doctor that cart blanche wrote prescriptions I would worry as

would I for one that did not believe in prescribing any! To me that would

not be a doctor practicing medicine but a person playing GOD, UNLESS there

were other indicators of a problem in medication management, even for

compassionate reasons.

I am typing this from a personal perspective and from both sides of the

fence. I have used and misused pain medications both ways at times to overdo

activities that I wanted to do because I want to live! And be damned with

the consequences to my joints and I have suffered without because of a

doctor for a while that did not believe in any pain management when I moved

away a couple of years. I have also given my medication freely to my husband

and done without because I couldn't stand to see him suffer, even when I

know he is doing too much. There I SAID IT. Life happens, and if we can't

share here, I don't know where.

So, try and talk with your doctors and get help if you need it but do not

suffer because it is inhumane either way if you need help and cannot talk to

someone.

Just sharing here OK?
