Cost of real food.

I noteced that Boar's Head, a maker of deli meats, pushed the advertizing of quality, saying so what if our deli meats are higher than store brand, they are better and anyway, compare the cost of 3 oz of our stuff on a home-made sandwich vs eating out.

This is the tack I took the last time I got the "We are on a budget" line. My wife and I both eat out more than we like. Partly for convenience and partly because of the need to be at meetings and going to lunch is a part of being on the job. If you look at the cost of eating out, a meal prepared from raw ingredients, at home is far less expensive. My beef is reasonable, Less than buying similar cuts at Teeter or Food Lion, much less than Whole Foods or Fresh Market, a little higher than Wally World. AND if someone wants to compare my product to Wal-mart, go for it, if you want to eat crap.

Quality food is worth paying for.

And THAT is what gets me so riled my veins pop out on my neck!Everything we sell should be cheaper than Wal-Mart. When I ask $2.25for eggs they tell me how this "fella" down the road has them for $1.Well what the heck are you asking me for if this "fella" has such darngood eggs! Same goes for our meat/animals. Ahhh I could go on aboutthis for some time.Belinda>> Jeff,> > There will always be agriculture wherever people...> I am surprised how little the masses care about what> they eat. Yep, we're all on a budget...

But for and I, no matter how tight our belts need to be as we build our

business(es), the

one thing we won't sacrifice is great food, organically grown, free-range and

raw.

Besides, I've been in the " conventional " grocery store lately, and to me, it

doesn't look like

it's much cheaper to shop there, ya know?

I think the idea that it's less expensive to shop at Wal-mart and other box

stores is an idea that

has been very well marketed to the people who spend much of their time in front

of the television.

Buying the good food, I feel, will always be cheaper in the long run. The real

cost(s) of eating

mass-produced " foods " (and I compliment much of it by even calling it food) are

cows that are just

coming home to roost here in the US of A and the rest of the world.

Best wishes,

Garret

Yes, people apply quality to other things...the cars they buy, the clothes they buy....some won't think twice about spending $2000 on a television when they could get a cheap used one for $100 bucks.....you'd think the quality of their food should be more important since it means the quality of their health and life! My food budget is the last place I cut back when things are tough.

Here is an article by a woman who did a comparison of eating a whole foods diet vs. eating processed foods. According to her calculations, there wasn't much difference in price...yet a world of difference in quality and nutritional density....

http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2005/02/16/organic-food-part-four.aspxAs for WalMart, I stopped shopping there as of May 2007....and proud of it! :-) The quality of their products is horrible, you can't find anything made in America, and their employees are nasty, arrogant, and act like they're doing you a huge favor if you ask them for help....I hate that place. I try my best to patronize local businesses including the local farmers.

Yeah, I wonder how much money the people eating the cheap WalMart food, are spending on healthcare, prescriptions, over-the-counter drugs......got to factor that in also....which most people don't....We see the doctor once a year for checkups...that's it....can't remember the last time any of us ahd to go on a sick visit.....
