Dual Diagnosis

Look at the family history and there may be a high bipolar background, so it is indeed possible to be both bipolar and with autism as well. I agree that it could be misdiagnosed too.

We couldn't deal with the violence of my son with autism until we added Depakote, which is a drug often used for mental illness. This medication has worked well for him.

The term dual diagnosis is usually thought of as a diagnosis of substance abuse and mental illness, but many states are now quite aware of other combinations.
