Do you and your family have allergies to alot of food?  Or do you like the same

food all the time without allergies?  Does certain foods make you feel bad?

What happens?

For me the only food allergy I have is Mango's. But for my husband son and

daughter its more intense dislikes , my husband will not eat beans not matter

what sort of beans they are or how they are prepared. He once said he would

rather fight with a crocodile for some fish rather than eat beans. My son is the

same with pea's. If there is a pea any where near his meal he wont eat any of it

whether it is touched or not. My daughter is lactose intolerant and she will eat

foods as long as they do not touch each other. She also doesnt like sauces or

things put on top of her food. My daughter wont eat things such  as a sausage

roll because in the meat is generally vegetables and things mixed together. For

her its harder because so many dishes require certain ingrediants.

Though her favorite dish is a only a few ingrediants which is a 4 cheese sauce

pasta and bacon bits. We can only use one brand of cheese sauce because thats

how she tasted it the first time. And it doesnt upset her stomach with her

lactose issues. Everyone else in our family add other grated cheese to the top

and she will tell us this is yuck to do that.

I read that autistic individuals may be lactose intolerant.  I wonder if eating

cheese and dairy products causes behavior changes, etc.

Is there anything a person can do to promote more food choices in an individual

with autism or just let them eat what they want to and not worry about it, even

if the diet is extremely restrictive.  Would it create more anxiety in an

autistic person to try to introduce more foods into their restrictive diet?

If you can offer any suggestions, I would appreciate the information.

With my own children the only way that I can get them to try new food is to eat

it in front of them. Sometimes they will want to know what it is and other times

they wont even ask. Again it depends on so much sensory wise. It has to smell

good to them , it has to be visually appealing to them and most of all it has to

taste good.

And if I introduce a new food I usually have to wait a few months at least

before I introduce something else. I basically let them eat what I know they

like but with some limits. My son would eat one certain candy all day if allowed

but it is limited to one or two as a treat for a good days school work and

helpful behaviours. Other than that all my family take a multi vitamin in a hope

to give them anything missing from their diet.

Does certain foods make you feel bad?  What happens?

certain foods do make of me nauseated but will eat them anyways because

of either the taste or the texture of it. but some foods do make me not

function well such as some sources of dairy, like a glass of milk will

make of me real disconnected and agitated.

some tend to cause me to have a more reactive and or over reactive

sensory overload. so i to suspect much so food sensitivies. I to have

issues with most veggies that have thick skins to them such as

cucumbers, green peppers and things of this. eggs make me much sick

most times like sudden feeling of a mild flu like response to it for

several hours then it goes away but still not able to stop eating them

all together because of like them.

I to love of bacon but the smell of the bacon grease afterwards scents

into the home much so that it makes of me sick much of the day from the

smell of it but like of crispu bacon.

Yes, I love steaks, italian dressing, mayo, bacon, tomatos with mozzarella

and olive oil.... these things make my stomach hurt so bad, if I eat a lot

of them. Sometimes it will affect my face.

I understand about the smells too. I hate the smell of the bacon after

cooking. I try so hard to remove the smell quickly.

I don't eat cucumbers with skins, peppers need to be cooked alot for me to

be able to eat them.

My husband thinks I am strange, owell.
