Guest guest
Rep. Carol Maloney, one of the Good Guys who has been advocating for our kids for years, is holding a meeting in DC tomorrow regarding vaccines and autism. Our Senators and Rep. are not yet committed to attending or sending a staffer according to the latest RVSPs on Age of Autism. I encourage you STRONGLY to email or call their offices. It only takes a few minutes -- there are many distractions with the budget bailout and hurricane but this is so important. If time is short, just say " I respectfully request that Sen. ______ or Rep. _____ attend or send a representative to Rep. Carol Maloney's meeting tomorrow regarding vaccines and autism. Below are emails to two schedulers for Hutchison and , and Cornyn's phone number (they wouldn't give me an email address). Here are the details if they ask: Wednesday, September 24 at 2:00 PM 210 Cannon House Office Building Independence Avenue, Washington, DC.FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC Kay -Hutchison scheduler@... Cornyn would not give scheduler e-mail, CALL!! 1- Ron jennifer.bailey@... Below is my letter, hastily prepared so not perfect, but feel free to use any wording you want -- but you know what you want to say, Regards, As a constituent knowledgeable about autism and the mother of two children with autism spectrum disorders, I noted with concern that your office has not committed to attending Rep. Carol Maloney's meeting tomorrow regarding vaccines and autism. This is perhaps the most critical and contentious healthcare debate of our time. A CDC study published one year ago established prevalence of Autism Spectrum Disorders as one in 150 children. This is a six year old study, on eight year old children, so this birth cohort is now 14 years old, and today's numbers are likely much higher. Of 50,000 students in our school district, 620 are identified with ASD's, more than 1 percent, and that does not include children who are homeschooled or not " in the system " . Strictly heritable diseases do NOT explode in prevalence, as Insel, M. D., director of the National Institutes of Mental Health reported at the National Autism Conference in 2007. There simply must be environmental contributors to the autism explosion and the complex interactions between individual immune system status and the most aggressive vaccination schedule in the world are not at all well understood. The news reports in the popular press and the information provided by pharmaceutical lobbyists, and even the conflicted CDC, do not accurately represent the evidence regarding a link between vaccines (including costituents of vaccines as well as the overall schedule) and autism. I strongly and respectfully encourage you to attend this meeting or send a representative to hear the concerns set forth by Rep. Maloney and thousands of Texas parents who believe this is far from a closed case, and the most important debate of our time.
