Guest guest
I just had my annual physical yesterday and there was a new young nurse in the room at my OBGYN. On the wall were 75 pictures of healthy babies and their families. I said " See those babies, if you had two bulletin boards one of those children would have Autism. " She said " So after you got your diagnosis what kind of supports did you receive? " I nearly flashed her as I fell off the table laughing. When she came back into the room I had written her a note to keep in her little starched green pocket that said. " Mrs Sherman your child has Autism there is no know cause cure or treatment for this disorder and it is life long. I suggest you talk to a parent. " This was a child Neurologist. Then I discovered my insurance would not cover anything related to Autism not even speech therapy. My pediatrician had no solutions for the diarrhea that burned his behind or the fact that he screamed all the time in pain. My parents wouldn't babysit, my friends deserted me, I had another 3 year old child at home NT, while his brother didn't eat, he couldn't speak, I couldn't leave the house because he'd scream at closed doors, lights at the grocery store everything. We were prisoners in our own home. After all this time people still ask me " What supports do you get? " or " Have you talked to a psychiatrist for help? " I'm not depressed because I did something. I searched and I found ABA, Chelation, RPM, GFCF diet all things I might add that my pediatric genius neurologist said would never work. If my son ever recovers I plan to go back and tell him " Look what parents did, thanks alot Dr.Smarty pants " . It still amazes me that the general public even a public who assists in delivering those babies who change our lives forever have no clue as to what we are up against. As if you get Autism and suddenly there is tons of help out there to guide you. When the doctor came in he said " So what have you been up to? " I said " Education " ........................
