Guest guest
I would do the PT if it is covered or you can afford it. Until you know what you are dealing with it won’t hurt and it might help depending on why the scoliosis is there. PT has definitely helped us, but our scoliosis is muscle based. I just recently introduced myself here, my 3 month old was just diagnosed with infantile scoliosis. I am hoping to hear when our first visit with the pediatric orthopedist will be very soon, but I did just receive a call from the local children's physical therapy center as my pediatrician did a referral to them as well. So here's my question: Since I don't know the degree of her curve or any specific information about her condition, will the physical therapy be helpful at all? From what I've been reading, it doesn't seem that PT is very useful. I mean, I suppose it's something to do in the meantime until we are seen, but I don't know that I really want to go through the hassle with my insurance company if it's not something that's necessary anyway. Does anyone have any thoughts or experiences with this? Thanks!
Guest guest
Ditto, to what said. In Dr,. Mehtas dvd “A New Direction” she is in favor of gentle stretching against the curve & massage. As long as its gentle, I think it’s a good plan. And, as someone else mentioned……It’s a way to be proactive and know that you are doing something besides “waiting & watching”, in the meantime. Guest guest
You guys are awesome! Thanks for the quick reply...I will go ahead with the eval on Saturday and see what they have to say. Also, can I order the DVD from ISOP's website? I am interested in getting started doing whatever I can with her at home! Guest guest
Hi , From my understanding, PT will not correct or improve the scoliosis. However, it can help with muscle tone, balance issues, etc. if those are concerns. Ask your pediatrician to refer you for a PT evalualation if you are unsure.... Good luck! Guest guest
I know I am new, but my daughters PT has helped her alot from when we started at 6 months. I dont know if it well help improve or not, but what says is tha she tries to help the spine stay flexible my stretching and workouts. From what I have read it seems important for the spine to be flexable and not ridged. I hope this helps, Josh > > > Subject: Physical Therapy? > To: infantile_scoliosis > Date: Wednesday, December 3, 2008, 4:54 PM > > > > > > > Hi everyone! > > I just recently introduced myself here, my 3 month old was just > diagnosed with infantile scoliosis. Guest guest
Thanks everyone for your input! We are going in the morning to the PT eval, I am curious what they say, but am willing to give it a shot if it will help in the least. I also got great news today! We got our referral to ish Rite, and will be heading up there for our initial consult on Dec. 17! I'm glad we finally have a date to look forward to so we can hope to get some answers...I hate being in the dark! Thanks so much everyone for all of the support, this has already been a roller-coaster ride, and we're only a couple of weeks in. > > > > From: mama2kalena_isaac_adam <forsythia99@> > > Subject: Physical Therapy? > > To: infantile_scoliosis > > Date: Wednesday, December 3, 2008, 4:54 PM > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi everyone! > > > > I just recently introduced myself here, my 3 month old was just > > diagnosed with infantile scoliosis.
