Hi Brittney, have you contacted ECI for services? They are either free

or base your fees on a sliding scale. You need to get in touch with

asap, kiddos can only be with their services until they are three, then

they are discharged to public preschool. I also have two year old

twins, girls though, and everything is very expensive! We have been

with ECI since they were 12 months and are now looking into a special

preschool, not public if I can help it.

They are in ECI. We do not see the specialists very often because I

did not find their services very helpful. Their weekly visits turned

out to be more of a disruption than anything else. They are in more

of a maintence program. They are checking in with them in Feb. for

their year evaluation. This allows me to get the ability to get them

into the school district when they are older. They do, however,

check in from time to time. We are looking into a private school

also. I am crossing my fingers insurance pays for some of it.

Thanks for the advice. Brittney

Hi Brittney,

I would try to get some ABA for your son. I've been wasting the past year

on OT, PT, and speech, with little improvement to show for it.

I could never afford to pay for ABA. I tried to do it myself when we first

got the diagnosis, but had a hard time and gave up. So we spent the next

year getting the therapies Medicaid would pay for. And like I said before

have little improvement to show for it.

I wish I hadn't give up so easily on ABA. I just recently found the Brent

Woodall Foundation (www.woodallkids.org). They came and did a training to

teach me how to do ABA with my son. They also did an indepth evaluation.

It really helped me learn to work with him. And it was free!

I would call them and get started as soon as you can!

Just my experience. Don't want to offend anyone who's had success with OT,

PT & Speech.

Here's some good websites to read for GFCF on a budget:

I buy a lot of supplements from the Vitamin Shoppe

www.vitaminshoppe.com

or from Source Natural Catalog

Thanks everyone. I live in the Woodlands. A suburb of Houston. I

just want to say that everyone I have talked to that is in the same

boat I am in has been wonderful. I have been welcomed with open arms

and I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. The Autism community

seems to be a wonderful supportive place and I can't tell you how

much I need that right now.

I am happy to be allowed to be in this group and hear the advice of

seasoned moms.

Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving. Brittney

I would also recommend using a visual schedule at home. Our little kiddos often struggles so much with verbal commands, it helps you have pictures that communicate what you want your child to do. You can us pictures or drawings. I simply drew a variety of very simple sketches of the things he needed to do every day, and others we did regularly.

Sink and toothbrush

toilet (when he's ready to learn to use the potty)

bathtub

clothes (time to get dressed)

book

puzzle

ball

car

shoes

coat

shopping cart (to prepare him to go food shopping)

playground

.... you get the idea. I tapped these under the kitchen counter in the order that we were going to do things each day and that way I could prepare him for what the "schedule says" it's time to do. It helped make following directions more matter-of-fact and helped with transitions.

For those of us with zero artistic talent (me!) www.do2learn.org has some free picture

schedules.
