Potential Kineret Problems

I wanted to see if anyone has had this experience either with

Kineret or any immuno-suppressing drug and find out what you and

your doc decided to do.

As many of you may recall, I had pertussis (whopping cough) last

May/June and was off my Kineret. I finally started back in August

and then had to go off again in October when I was in the hospital

with kidney stones. After that, I went back on for about a week and

then had to go off because of a cold/flu/chest/lung thing. I just

started back on it this week.

What i have noticed, is that each time I start, within a few days I

am wheezing in the evenings and have more congestion and coughing.

My lungs are my weak spot - I always had bronchitis each year

(usually twice) growing up here in Houston. Interestingly, when I

left HOuston I never had any lung issues, excepting when I lived in

Chile, got pneumonia and set off this Stills. NOw that I am back in

Houston's lovely air, lung issues arise a lot.

I think the Kineret is suppressing my immune system too much for my

lungs. Obviously my lungs are not an over-reactive part of my

immune system. I am in a quandry because I love my kineret - LOVE

IT - but I can't continually have lung issues either because it

inevitably leads to bronchitis which will someday lead me back to

pneumonia.

I am torn at whether i need to see an asthma doc or an ENT

specializing in drug-induced asthma/issues or get off the Kineret

and try something new. I'll talk it out with my RD at my appointment

in March, but i want to try to start forming an opinion on it now.

Thanks for any input.

,

I'm so sorry, honey! I don't know anything about Kineret, but I do know a lot

of the other immuno-suppressing drugs can cause lungs problems. I usually have

a bout with bronchitis everey year, too, going through it right now!

Feel better soon,

Hi , I think you need to see an pulmanologist. I saw one when I had

problems with my lungs. Between him and your RD, they should be able to

decide whether to continue Kineret or not. I think it's really critical

actually. They do breathing tests, etc. That will give you a baseline for

the future.

Take care,

Thanks !

I seem to be doing okay for now with the Kineret, though I admitedly

am not taking it every day yet, just every other day. I'll see how

long it takes for my lungs to be compromised this time. I am going to

try to bump it up to every day this week.
