Guest guest
A time to give... Yes, we know that it is the holiday season and we’re all trying to accomplish too many tasks. However, we’d like to urge you to attend the following event – and be reminded of the true meaning of Christmas! What: Candlelight vigil and gift drop-off at a facility for individuals with developmental disabilities When: Wednesday, December 10th from 7:00 – 8:00 pm Where: Cimarron Living Center 1680 S. Edmonds Ln. ville, TX 75067 (meet in the parking lot of Westside Baptist Church next door to the facility) Why: In recognition of International Human Rights Day, Community Now! – a state-wide non-profit activist organization – is hosting this event to shine a light on the inhumane conditions for Texans with developmental disabilities who live in institutions (state schools and smaller facilities). Last year, Bryon from Channel 8 News did a feature about Cimarron – see “Disabled and Ignored in Texas” at www.wfaa.com. People with disabilities, their families, advocates and concerned citizens will gather on the sidewalk outside this facility and the event will include: candles, short speeches, and signing Christmas carols. If possible, please bring at least one wrapped gift for the residents of Cimarron – most of whom have no family involved in their lives. At the end of the event, the gifts will be delivered to the staff. For additional information about Community Now! go to: www.communitynowfreedom.com. Happy Holidays!
