Moving Forward We in San are grateful for the groundbreaking work started by The Autism Society of America over 40 years ago. However, we feel that in the current economic climate it is in the best interest of all to defer our efforts into other local, stronger non-profits. In San we believe there are more than 6,000 people who live with an Autism diagnosis. If each person has an average of two local family members, four neighbors, six teachers, two therapists, two doctors, and visits six merchants it is clear to see that the impact is staggering. We have a desperate need to prepare the next generation of service providers and for a general culture shift of acceptance towards all individual differences. It is not feasible to operate this type of effort out of one family's home with less than $10,000 a year. We are fortunate that in San there are many strong local organizations who work tirelessly to support people who are affected by Autism and other differences. If you have not downloaded our 212 page resource guide, please do it now! If there is a specific service that you feel is lacking give them a call --keep in mind that if you ask for something then you must be willing to help support it. When you are called to support the cause financially or through volunteer hours --contact these groups. We believe that it takes a village to raise a child; and it takes a large city to support the needs of people with Autism. Thank you for your support and remember this is not the end it is only the beginning of a new day! When we are divided we will be conquered, but together we can make a real difference. Sincerely Yours, Theresa Look for more San autism news to come from our friends at Any Baby Can's- " Reaching Families Facing Autism " program in the future.
