Guest guest
I saw this posted on some other sites, and in the early years of my son's diagnosis I had those feelings too. He would scream at the top of his lungs for no apparent reason in public places. Everyone would immediately look at me to see what I did to him! We were out to dinner this past Friday night, and there was a boy about my son's age at the next table who was hugging his mom and coloring quietly. I was thinking, " Wow, wouldn't that be great to have my son that calm! " His mother caught me staring at them, and stared back at my son, and I thought she was thinking about how loud and disruptive my son was acting. About 30 minutes later, the family got up to leave, and to my complete surprise her son ran over to another table and started flapping his arms and tried to get another child's toy. The mom quickly escorted her son out of the restaurant. I was reminded how easy it is to make assumptions. I wish I would have been able to talk to her, and make a connection! > > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5v5ZeCrPvQ >
Guest guest
Hi and thanks for your response and story! It reminds me of a story my wife told me that happened about a year ago...my wife was waiting in a busy parking lot for this lady to load her kids into her van so my wife could get her spot. This huge line formed behind my wife and my wife was feeling a thousand eyes boring into the back of her head lol...but the lady was taking forever! My wife said she seemed totally frustrated with her children and totally overwhelmed trying to get them into the car...she was taking forever. My wife had her hand on the horn ready to beep to let her know that there were a lOT of cars pleading with God to MAKE her get into the car and pull out! As she got into the car she looked at my wife with a frazzled, hair in a mess look that said " Im so sorry " and my wife was glad she didnt beep her horn. Once inside the car she still took another minute to finally start it and as she backed out my wife saw an autism ribbon on the back of her car and a little boy hand flapping in a car seat. My wife just broke out into tears...she had been there herself far too many times.
